We join together in the name of Jesus Christ to intercede for our national and world leaders, as the Scriptures urge us to pray for all in authority. Let us remember the words of the Apostle Paul in his letter to Timothy: "I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks, be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence" (1 Timothy 2:1-2, WEB).
Firstly, we thank God for the leaders and authorities He has placed over our lives, as Romans 13:1-2 reminds us that there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. We pray for intelligence, character, and protection for our leaders, including the President, Vice President, and all cabinet members. We ask that God would grant them godly wisdom and guidance, and set a guard over their mouths, as Psalm 141:3 says, "Set a watch, Yahweh, before my mouth. Keep the door of my lips." We pray that they would be given the tongue of the wise, as Proverbs 15:2 tells us, "The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of fools blurts out folly."
We pray that our leaders would be surrounded by godly counsel and that their leadership would promote unity and righteousness, with no bitterness or rivalry. May our leaders "do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with [their] God" (Micah 6:8, WEB). We ask You, Lord, to give Your angels charge over our leaders, as Psalm 91:10-12 promises, "No evil shall happen to you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling. For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways."
We lift up this prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, recognizing that it is only through His name that we have access to God. As the Scriptures tell us, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" (Acts 4:12, WEB).
Let us encourage one another to pray fervently for our leaders, trusting in the power of God to guide and direct their steps. May we remain steadfast in our intercession, knowing that our prayers can shape the course of history and bring about change in our nations.
