We understand that you're going through a challenging situation with your brother-in-law, and we're here to pray and provide counsel based on biblical principles.
Firstly, we must remember that God calls us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us, as Jesus taught in Matthew 5:44 WEB: "But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you,". This doesn't mean that we should allow or tolerate abuse; rather, it reminds us to maintain a heart of love and forgiveness, even as we seek protection and separation if necessary.
In your case, it's important to set boundaries to protect yourself from abuse. Psalm 55:22 WEB tells us, "Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved." We can trust God to help us carry our burdens and protect us from harm.
However, we should not pray for the removal of someone from our lives, as this does not reflect the heart of love and forgiveness that God calls us to have. Instead, we can pray for their transformation and for God's will to be done in their lives, as well as our own.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, lifting up our sister who is struggling with a difficult brother-in-law. We pray that You would protect her and defend her from any abuse or harm. Help her to set wise boundaries and to trust in You for her safety and well-being. We also pray for her brother-in-law, that You would soften his heart and bring him to a place of repentance and transformation. Help them both to live in peace and harmony, reflecting the love of Jesus Christ in their lives. Finally, we pray for healing and restoration for our sister, that she would be able to overcome any pain or hurt she has experienced as a result of this situation. We ask all of this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Lastly, we gently remind you that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God. As it says in Acts 4:12 WEB: "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" If you haven't already, consider placing your faith in Jesus Christ for salvation and eternal life.
