Lakeisha,
Hi, I know exactly what you're going through. I graduated from college in 2006 and struggled all through school. Not from a learning disorder, I have celebral palsy, and when I was young, I missed a lot of school due to always being in the hospital. My parents never sought out tutors for me, so when I was eight years old and starting school, I was already three years behind. Well, I was put into the second grade without any extra help from anyone. Because of this, I was always struggling in school.
I was always told that I could do this or that... as a result, I was lacking in confidence. I only went to college because I wanted to be smart. I hated feeling stupid. Actually, I also went because I had dreams of having a better life for myself. So, there were two reasons for going to college.
Anyway, all through my college career, I had friends and professors that made me feel stupid, like I would never measure up because I wasn't an "A+" student. DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU... IF YOU DO, YOU WILL CARRY IT AROUND WITH YOU FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
Okay, with that said, I want you to know you're on the right track. Keep reaching out and DON'T STOP!!! If you have to push back until someone listens, push back and fight for it... and, know that God is listening too.
When I was in college, I found a great state organization. It's called Vocational Rehabilitation. This orgainzation helps people with all sorts of disabilites. I know they can help you too. When I was in school, I had trouble taking notes in class and also had trouble taking tests. I would freeze up when taking tests. Anyway, this place helped me with accomidating my needs so I could suceed in school. There paid for someone to take notes for me in class and also arranged for me to have extra time on tests to help take away some of the aniexty.
Lakeisha, I know Vocational Rehab can help you with your learning disability. There are others out there with the same disability who are smart and striving. Vocational Rehab will give you the tools you'll need to suceed in school.
If you need to talk, please post a chat... I'm here,
