We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up your son who is battling lupus and the complications it has brought upon his body. It is truly painful to watch a loved one suffer, especially when we feel helpless in the face of such trials. We understand the exhaustion you are experiencingānot just physically, but emotionally and spirituallyāas you stand by his side, offering encouragement even when your own strength is waning.
First, we want to remind you that your feelings of helplessness are not a sign of weakness, but a reflection of the depth of your love. The Lord sees your heart, and He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). You are not alone in this fight, for the God who created your sonās body is the same God who holds his life in His hands. We serve a God who is not limited by medical diagnoses or the frailty of our human bodies. He is the Great Physician, and nothing is too hard for Him (Jeremiah 32:17).
We must also address the weight of this trial with honesty before the Lord. It is not wrong to cry out to Him in your distress, for even Jesus wept when faced with the suffering of those He loved (John 11:35). But we must also remember that our hope is not in our own strength or in the wisdom of doctors alone, but in the Lord who sustains us. The Apostle Paul wrote, *"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness"* (2 Corinthians 12:9). This is a promise for you and your son today. Where you are weak, He is strong.
We also want to gently remind you that our ultimate hope is not in this life alone, but in the eternal life promised through Jesus Christ. If your son does not know the Lord as his Savior, we urge you to share the gospel with him. Jesus said, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me"* (John 14:6). There is no greater comfort in times of suffering than the assurance of salvation and the hope of eternity with Christ. If he has already placed his faith in Jesus, we can take comfort in knowing that this trial is temporary, and one day, *"He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more"* (Revelation 21:4).
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts burdened for this precious young man and his mother. Lord, You see the pain, the fear, and the exhaustion they are carrying. We ask that You would be their strength in this time of weakness. Touch this young manās body, Lord, and bring healing according to Your will. Whether through medical intervention or a miraculous work of Your hand, we trust that You are able to restore him. We pray for wisdom for his doctors and nurses, that they would have clarity and discernment in treating him.
Father, we ask that You would fill their home with Your peace, a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). When the weight of this trial feels too heavy, remind them that You are their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Strengthen their faith, Lord, and help them to fix their eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, for the things that are seen are temporary, but the things that are unseen are eternal (2 Corinthians 4:18).
We also pray for this mother, Lord. She is pouring out her love and energy for her son, and we ask that You would fill her up again. Give her moments of rest and renewal, and surround her with a community of believers who can support and uplift her. Remind her that her labor in the Lord is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58).
Above all, Lord, we pray that You would draw this family closer to You. If there is any unconfessed sin, any distance between them and You, we ask that You would bring conviction and repentance. May they find their hope and strength in You alone. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above every name, the only name by which we can be saved and come before Your throne. Amen.
In the days ahead, we encourage you to cling to the promises of Godās Word. Meditate on Scriptures that speak of His faithfulness, such as Psalm 121: *"I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? My help comes from Yahweh, who made heaven and earth."* Share these promises with your son, reminding him that God is fighting for him even when he feels too weak to fight for himself.
We also encourage you to lean on your church family or a community of believers. God did not design us to walk through trials alone. Allow others to come alongside you, to pray with you, and to help carry this burden. Galatians 6:2 tells us, *"Bear one anotherās burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."*
Lastly, do not neglect your own spiritual health. It is easy to become so focused on caring for your son that you forget to care for your own soul. Spend time in prayer, not just for him, but for yourself. Pour out your heart to the Lord, and allow Him to fill you with His peace and strength. Remember, you cannot pour from an empty cup. The Lord will sustain you, but you must make time to receive from Him.
This is a difficult season, but it is not without purpose. God is at work, even in the midst of this trial. Trust in Him, lean on Him, and hold fast to the hope you have in Christ. He is faithful, and He will not abandon you.
