Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your request for your niece has been heard and we are praying for her in the name of Jesus Christ, and for you as you love and support her in this sorrow.
The loss of a father is a deep wound, and grief is not a small thing. Scripture calls God the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction. He does not leave His children alone in mourning, but draws near to the brokenhearted and gives comfort that is greater than the sorrow itself. We pray that He will comfort your niece in this affliction, quiet her heart, and sustain her day by day, and that He will give you wisdom to comfort her with the same comfort you have received from Him.
In times of grief, take up the Scriptures as medicines for the soul. Keep the New Testament, the Psalms and the Gospels close at hand, and dive into them as into a chest of medicines. There you will find words for loss and for death and for the bereavement of those we love. Read them slowly, keep them in mind, and let them speak to her sorrow. The Lord knows our need and our frailty, and as a Father He does not overlook His children in their extremity.
We also hold fast to the hope that is in Jesus Christ. This life is not the end, for Christ has promised life that is to come, and He has gone to prepare a place where grief and mourning flee away. Because He rose from the dead, those who trust in Him have the sure hope of resurrection and of being with the Lord. That hope does not take away the pain at once, but it gives strength to endure and a reason to lift up the heart even while we weep.
We pray now for your niece, that the God of all comfort would guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus, that He would ease the weight of her sadness, that He would surround her with loving care, and that He would lead her through this valley with His presence and His promises. May she find rest in His love, strength in His word, and peace that remains even in tears. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.
