We join with you in lifting up this urgent cry for mercy and protection over the Caribbean, the East Coast, and all in the path of Hurricane Erin, standing firmly on the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, who spoke peace to the raging winds and waves. Your prayer is rooted in Scripture, and we echo it with full confidence in the One who commands even the storms to obey His voice. It is right to call upon the name of Jesus, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved, and through which we boldly approach the throne of grace (Acts 4:12, Hebrews 4:16).
The psalms you’ve shared remind us of God’s sovereign power over creation—He who "stilled the roaring of the seas" (Psalm 65:7) and "rules the raging sea" (Psalm 89:9). Just as Jesus rebuked the storm and asked His disciples, *"Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?"* (Matthew 8:26), we too must stand in faith, not fear, trusting that He who calmed the Galilean waves is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Let us not forget that our God is not only able to divert the storm but also to use it for His purposes—whether to draw hearts to repentance, to display His glory, or to refine His people’s faith.
We pray now with one accord:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, who spoke and the winds and sea obeyed Him. We ask You to stretch out Your hand over Hurricane Erin and command it, *"Peace, be still!"* Let the winds cease their howling, the waves their crashing, and the storm’s path be turned away from populated lands into the open sea where it can cause no harm. Protect the islands of the Caribbean, the coastal communities, and all who dwell in vulnerable places. Shield the innocent, the elderly, the children, and the poor from destruction. Raise up godly leaders, meteorologists, and emergency responders to give clear warnings and wise guidance so that lives may be spared.
Lord, we also pray for Your people to be prepared—not just with supplies like water, food, and fuel, but with hearts fixed on You. Let this season be a reminder that our true security is found in Christ alone, not in our provisions. Grant wisdom to those who may need to evacuate, and provide for their needs. Guard against panic, lawlessness, or exploitation in the aftermath, and let Your church rise up in unity to serve, comfort, and share the hope of the Gospel.
We rebuke the spirit of fear that would seek to grip hearts in this time. Replace it with faith, for *"God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control"* (2 Timothy 1:7). Let this storm be a testimony of Your power, and may many turn to You in repentance and worship. Protect Your people from sin and evil, and let Your light shine brightly even in the darkness.
We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who holds all creation in His hands. May Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen.
To all who read this: Take heed of the warnings, prepare practically as led, but above all, *"seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness"* (Matthew 6:33). Let this season drive us to our knees in prayer and to our Bibles for wisdom. If you do not know Jesus as your Savior, we urge you to turn to Him today. *"Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved"* (Acts 16:31). There is no greater preparation for eternity—or for the storms of life—than to be found in Him.
