We thank you for sharing this precious word of our Lord Jesus and we rejoice with you in it, for in Matt 17:20 He said Because of your little faith. For most certainly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move and nothing will be impossible for you.

We are reminded that Jesus spoke this to His disciples after they were unable to cast out a demon and they asked Him why they had failed. He was showing them that it is not the size of our faith that moves mountains but the authenticity of it and the greatness of the God in whom that faith is placed. A mustard seed is very small yet it is alive and it grows. So true faith, even if it seems small in our own eyes, when it is placed wholly in Christ, trusts His power and not our own.

We want to encourage you that this promise is not that we can force God to do whatever we desire by trying to muster up enough belief, but that when we walk closely with Him and pray according to His will, He is able to do what is impossible for man. As it is written in Mark 11:24, All things whatever you pray and ask for, believe that you have received them, and you shall have them, and in 1 John 5:14, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. And we grow that faith not by striving but by hearing and trusting His Word, for faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God in Rom 10:17, and without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him in Heb 11:6.

We notice your request quotes His words but does not name Him, and we gently want to remind you that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and that this mountain moving faith is faith in Him alone. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, and in Acts 4:12, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We encourage you if you have not already done so to place your trust fully in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and for eternal life, believing that He died for you and rose again, for that is the foundation of all true faith.

We pray together with you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We thank You for Your Word and for the promise that nothing will be impossible for those who trust You. Forgive us for our little faith and for the times we have doubted Your power and Your love. Increase our faith, Lord, help our unbelief, and teach us to abide in You and to pray according to Your will. We ask that You would move the mountains in our lives that only You can move, whether they be sickness, fear, sin, broken relationships or needs that seem impossible, and that You would do it for Your glory. Strengthen this dear one who shared this verse, fill them with Your peace and assurance, and let their faith grow day by day as they seek You in prayer and in Your Word. Draw them ever closer to Jesus, in whose name we pray, amen.

Thank you for putting this verse before us. We hear in it both hope and honesty about how small our faith can feel at times.

We love how Jesus points to something tiny like a mustard seed and shows it is not the size of our faith that matters most but the One our faith rests in. Faith at its heart is quiet confidence in how trustworthy Christ is, even when our feelings waver or circumstances feel like mountains that will not move.

If you are holding onto just a little faith today, we want you to know that is not nothing to God. He is the One who gives faith and gently grows it as we keep listening to His word and walking with Him, and He stays near when that faith is tested and stretched.

One simple way we have found helpful is to bring that small faith honestly to Him each day in a brief prayer, telling Him where you feel unsure and asking Him to help you trust Him a little more there, and sharing that journey with one faithful friend or pastor who can walk with you.

Father, thank You for seeing the faith we have, small as it may feel. Help our friend to rest in Your trustworthiness today, to hear Your voice and know Your nearness. Grow what You have planted and give peace in the waiting. In Jesus' name, Amen.

The text you have laid upon your heart is one of great mercy and encouragement. Our Lord said, if ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, nothing shall be impossible unto you. And therein lies your comfort, for it was only a grain, a very small one, so very small that the Jews were accustomed to say, as small as mustard seed, and yet the promise is joined to it.

You may fear because your faith is little, but hear this truth, little faith is true faith. It is not the littleness that is commended, but the faith itself. The least faith in Jesus is the gift of God and it is like precious faith, though it is not like strong faith. It is born from above and belongs to the family of the saved. If it begins and ends with Jesus, it is real and saving faith. To know that Christ is there, and to believe that He is strong to save, and then to drop down into His arms, that is the pith and essence of faith. Have you done so, even with a trembling hand, then you have that which can do wonders.

It was only a grain of mustard seed, but the man set it before his mind as a distinct object to be dealt with and sowed it in his garden. So you must do. It is not enough to speak of mustard seed, or to know how it grows, you must sow it. Go on sowing your mustard seed of salvation by faith, expecting and believing that fruit will come thereof. We sow the seed, but who prepares the soil and makes the furrows soft with showers. There was never yet one sinner converted by man alone. The heavenly Farmer must watch over it, and He will.

You speak of mountains, and perhaps you feel them now, great difficulties that close up your way and divide you from comfort. Remember, it is easy for Christ to come over the mountains for your relief, as the hart or the roe is made to cross the hills. What is impossible with you is possible with Him when faith lays hold upon His promise.

Therefore let us pray together that the Lord would both tenderly commend the little faith you have and graciously increase it. For it is only want of faith that makes this world such a place of sorrow to God's people, but when faith is firm, it laughs at tribulation and quenches all the fiery darts of the wicked.

May the Lord take away all unbelief and teach you to act as though you believed His Word. May He increase your faith till that grain, though small at the first, grows into a tree wherein your soul may find rest, and may He by that faith move the mountain that now stands before you, for all things are possible to him that believeth. We ask this not for our worthiness, but for the sake of Jesus Christ, in whom alone is salvation, and in whose name every prayer prevails.

Your sharing of this word from Matthew 17:20 is good, and I thank God that you have brought it forward for prayer.

When the Lord speaks of faith like a grain of mustard seed, He is not speaking of amount alone but of what is genuine and living. The seed looks small in size, yet its power is very strong. In this way He shows that even the least measure of true faith, if it is real and rooted in Him, can do great things through His power. He adds that nothing shall be impossible to you, not to lift up ourselves, but to show how great His strength is when we trust Him.

You ask how such faith comes to us. It does not come by wishing alone, but when we walk faithfully with the Lord and rightly do what He has given us to do. Faith grows as we turn from sin, clear the heart of thorns, and let the good seed of His word take root. It grows as we learn to give a reason for the hope within us, not with clever arguments, but with a clear and steady confidence in what God has promised. To believe in this way is to glorify God, to hold in mind His greatness and His power, and to be fully persuaded that what He has promised He is able also to perform.

So do not be discouraged if your faith feels small. Bring that small faith to Christ and ask Him to make it true and firm. Seek Him daily in His word and in prayer, obey what you already know to be His will, turn from what dulls the heart, and trust His promises more than your own feelings or reasonings. A small and genuine faith in a great Savior is enough, because the power belongs to Him.

I pray for you now, that the Lord who supplies seed to the sower would increase your faith and make it fruitful. May He strengthen you to trust Him fully, to live in a way that honors Him, and to know His help in the mountains that stand before you. May He keep you steady, so that your faith would not be shaken, and that your life would bring glory to Him who desires your salvation and your good.

The verse you shared points to something very tender and very powerful about faith. When Jesus spoke those words the disciples were struggling with unbelief, and their honest response was to ask the Lord to increase their faith. That is still the right prayer for any of us.

We often hear this verse and think Jesus is talking about amount, as if a tiny quantity of faith would be enough if we could just work it up. But He did not say faith the size of a mustard seed, He said faith as a mustard seed. A mustard seed is not just small, it is alive. Inside it is the life and pattern to become something much larger. When it is planted and covered, it germinates and grows. In the same way, genuine faith is not measured by how much we feel we have, but by whether it is living faith placed in God Himself.

That kind of faith rests on what God has said. Abraham believed what God promised, that through his seed all nations would be blessed, and God counted that trust as righteousness. That promised seed is Christ, and when you are in Christ by faith you share in that promise. Sarah is another example. Past the age of childbearing she received strength to conceive because she judged Him faithful who had promised. Faith is not blind. It actually sees more, because it sees the faithfulness of God beyond what is visible. It is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not yet seen.

Living faith will show itself in life, but works do not create it. Faith comes first, and then a changed life follows as evidence that the faith is real. Peter learned this on the water. He began to walk while his eyes were on Jesus, and he began to sink when fear made him look at the wind. Fear is the opposite of faith and it weakens faith. Keeping your eyes on Jesus is how faith is strengthened.

Jesus said with faith as a mustard seed you could speak to a mountain and it would move and nothing would be impossible. Whether that mountain is a physical need or a spiritual obstacle that seems immovable, God has given us this principle that He responds to trusting Him. That does not mean every difficulty is removed instantly. Scripture shows some through faith subdued kingdoms and stopped the mouths of lions, and others with the same faith endured suffering and still died in faith. Having faith is not a guarantee that we will never suffer, but it is a guarantee that God is present and faithful through it all.

If you are looking at a mountain in your life right now and wondering if your faith is enough, do not try to measure it. Bring the small, honest faith you have and plant it in the word and character of God. Ask Him as the disciples did, Lord help my faith to grow. Trust Christ alone for salvation and righteousness, take His promises to heart, and let that trust shape your steps day by day. Even a small seed, when it is alive and rooted in good soil, grows into something far greater than its beginning, and God is able to do what seems impossible.
