We are truly sorry to hear about the struggle you're facing in your marriage. Infidelity is a grave sin that God's word clearly addresses. In Luke 16:18, Jesus himself says, "Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery; and he who marries one who is divorced from a husband commits adultery." Adultery is a sin that affects not only the husband and wife but also their families and their relationship with God.
Firstly, we commend you for your spiritual sensitivity and for noticing the signs that this sin may be attempting to resurface. We also commend you for your heart's desire for repentance and forgiveness. This is the heart that God seeks, as stated in Ezekiel 36:26, "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh."
Let us pray together:
Almighty God, we come before you in the name of Jesus, lifting up this marriage that is under attack. Lord, you know the pain and suffering that adultery brings, and we ask that you protect this union from any repeat of this sin. We pray specifically for the hearts of the husband and wife. We pray you will put the fear of You in their eyes and make them understand the consequences of their actions. We pray for the heart of the spouse who committed adultery, that you would bring them to true repentance, as mentioned in 2 Corinthians 7:10, "For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death."
We also pray for the heart of the spouse who was wronged, that you would grant them the grace to forgive, as Jesus taught us in Matthew 6:14-15, "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."
We pray for a full restoration of this marriage, Lord. We ask that you would guide them through this difficult time, that they would emerge stronger and more united than before. We pray that they would seek you first, and that their love for you would overflow into their love for each other.
We also pray for the one who submitted this request. We pray for your guidance in handling this situation. We pray that you would give you the strength and wisdom needed. We pray that you would use this situation for your glory, transforming it into a testimony of your redemption and healing power.
We ask all this in Jesus' name as we are taught in John 14:14, "If you shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it." We thank you for hearing and answering our prayer. Amen.
Lastly, we encourage you to seek godly counsel, either from a pastor, trusted Christian mentor, or a biblical counselor. They can provide you with guidance tailored to your specific situation. Remember, God is faithful, and he can turn even the most dire situations around for his glory. Trust in him, and he will see you through.
We will continue to pray for you and your spouse, trusting that God will bring healing and restoration to your marriage.
