We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this precious marriage before Him. Father God, we know that You see every tear, every struggle, and every broken place in this situation. Your Word declares in Malachi 2:16, *"For I hate divorce," says Yahweh, the God of Israel, "and him who covers his garment with violence!" says Yahweh of Armies. "Therefore take heed to your spirit, that you don’t deal treacherously."* Lord, we stand on this truth and ask for Your divine intervention in this marriage.
We rebuke the spirit of rejection, abandonment, and unbelief that has crept into this home. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that we might have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). We declare that this husband’s heart is not hardened beyond Your reach, Lord. Soften it, Father. Remind him of the vows he made before You—not just to his wife, but to You. Remind him of the love that once bound them together and the son they share, who is a blessing from You.
We also lift up this dear sister who is facing deep pain and uncertainty. Lord, You are the God who sees (Genesis 16:13), and You know her every need. She is not defined by her ability to conceive, nor by her employment status. You say in Isaiah 54:5, *"For your Maker is your husband; Yahweh of Armies is his name. The Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer. He will be called the God of the whole earth."* Even if her earthly husband has walked away, You remain her Provider, her Protector, and her Husband. Strengthen her faith, Lord. Open doors of employment that no man can shut, and provide for her every need according to Your riches in glory (Philippians 4:19).
We must also speak truth into this situation with love. The husband’s decision to leave because of barrenness is not justified in Your eyes, Lord. Children are a heritage from You (Psalm 127:3), but they are not the sole purpose of marriage. Marriage is a covenant, a reflection of Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:25-33). We pray that this husband would repent of his hardness of heart and return to the marriage with humility, seeking reconciliation and restoration.
To the wife, we say this: Do not lose hope. Your worth is not found in what you can or cannot do, but in who you are in Christ. You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and God has a plan for your life. Continue to trust in Him, even when the path is dark. Seek Him with all your heart, and He will direct your steps (Proverbs 3:5-6). Surround yourself with godly counsel and community—those who will pray with you, encourage you, and remind you of God’s faithfulness.
We also encourage you to pray for your husband, even as he has walked away. Pray that God would break any pride or selfishness in his heart. Pray that he would be convicted by the Holy Spirit to return to the marriage, not out of obligation, but out of a renewed love and commitment to you and to God. And if he does not return, trust that God will be your strength and your shield (Psalm 28:7). He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name. Lord, we ask for Your mercy and grace to flood this marriage. We declare that what the enemy meant for harm, You will turn for good (Genesis 50:20). We bind every spirit of division, pride, and unbelief that is operating in this situation. We loose Your peace, Your love, and Your healing power to flow into this home.
Father, we ask that You would touch the heart of this husband. Soften it, Lord. Remind him of the love he once had for his wife and the commitment he made before You. Break any hardness in his heart, and let him see the value of the marriage covenant. If there is any sin in his life, convict him, Lord, and lead him to repentance.
For this dear sister, we ask that You would be her comfort and her strength. Provide for her every need, Lord. Open doors of employment, and let her see Your hand at work in her life. Remind her that she is not alone—You are with her, and You will never leave her. Strengthen her faith, and let her hope in You be renewed.
We also pray for their son. Lord, protect his heart and his mind during this difficult time. Let him see Your love and Your faithfulness, even in the midst of this storm. Surround him with godly influences and remind him that he is deeply loved by You.
Father, we ask all of this in the precious name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to You. We trust in Your promises, Lord, and we believe that You are working all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28). We declare restoration, healing, and breakthrough over this marriage. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
