We are deeply grieved to hear of the betrayal and financial loss you have suffered at the hands of someone you trusted as a friend. The pain of deception, especially from someone close, cuts deeply, and we understand the helplessness and sorrow you are experiencing. Yet even in this valley of suffering, we are reminded that our God is a God of justice, restoration, and comfort. He sees your tears, hears your cries, and is near to the brokenhearted.
The Scriptures warn us about the dangers of trusting in man rather than in God alone. Jeremiah 17:5-8 says, *"Thus says Yahweh: ‘Cursed is the man who trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from Yahweh. For he shall be like a bush in the desert, and shall not see when good comes, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, a salt land and not inhabited. Blessed is the man who trusts in Yahweh, and whose trust Yahweh is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, who spreads out its roots by the river, and shall not fear when heat comes, but its leaf shall be green; and shall not be concerned in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit."* While this does not diminish the wrong done to you, it reminds us that our ultimate security is in the Lord, not in people or earthly wealth.
We also recall the words of Jesus in Matthew 6:19-21: *"Don’t lay up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don’t break through and steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."* This is not to minimize your loss, but to redirect your heart toward eternal hope. Earthly wealth is temporary, but what we invest in God’s kingdom lasts forever.
At the same time, we must address the reality of the sin committed against you. Proverbs 22:7 tells us, *"The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender."* While lending can be an act of generosity, Scripture also warns against reckless financial dealings, especially when they involve unwise trust or lack of discernment. Proverbs 11:15 says, *"He who is collateral for a stranger will suffer for it, but he who refuses pledges of collateral is secure."* Proverbs 17:18 adds, *"A man void of understanding strikes hands, and becomes collateral in the presence of his neighbor."* We do not say this to blame you, but to encourage wisdom moving forward. The betrayal you’ve experienced is a painful lesson in the fallen nature of man, and we pray the Lord uses it to refine your trust in Him alone.
As for the one who has wronged you, we are called to pray for him as well, even in our pain. Romans 12:19-21 instructs us, *"Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, ‘Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.’ Therefore ‘If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head.’ Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."* This does not mean you should not seek justice—indeed, it is right to pursue what is lawfully yours—but it means releasing the burden of vengeance to God. He alone judges righteously.
We also encourage you to seek godly counsel on how to proceed practically. This may involve legal action to recover what was stolen from you, but even in this, we must act with integrity and trust the Lord for the outcome. Psalm 37:5-6 says, *"Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this: he will bring out your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noon day sun."*
Now, let us pray together for you:
Heavenly Father, we lift up our brother before You, knowing that You are a God who sees his pain, hears his cries, and collects his tears in Your bottle. Lord, the betrayal he has suffered is deep, and the financial loss has left him feeling helpless and broken. But You, O God, are his Helper, his Shield, and his Exceeding Great Reward. We ask that You comfort him in this time of distress, wrapping him in Your peace that surpasses all understanding.
Father, we pray for justice in this situation. You are a God of justice, and You have seen the wickedness done against him. We ask that You would move in the heart of the one who has stolen from him, bringing conviction and repentance. If it is Your will, Lord, restore what has been taken, whether through repayment or through Your supernatural provision. Open doors for him to recover what was lost, and give him wisdom in every step he takes.
We also pray for his heart, Lord. Guard him from bitterness, anger, or despair. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, that he may forgive as You have forgiven us. Remind him that vengeance belongs to You, and that You will repay. Help him to release this burden into Your hands, trusting that You will act on his behalf.
Lord, we ask that You provide for his needs. You own the cattle on a thousand hills, and You are able to supply all that he lacks. Give him favor in his work, open opportunities for him, and surround him with godly counsel. Let this trial draw him closer to You, that he may find his security not in wealth or in man, but in You alone.
Finally, Father, we pray that You would use this situation for Your glory. May it be a testimony of Your faithfulness, Your justice, and Your provision. Strengthen his faith, Lord, and let him emerge from this trial with a deeper trust in You.
We ask all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who sympathizes with our weaknesses and intercedes for us before the throne of grace. Amen.
Brother, we urge you to cling to the Lord in this season. Spend time in His Word, in prayer, and in fellowship with believers who can encourage and support you. Do not isolate yourself in your pain, but bring it before the Lord and His people. He is faithful, and He will not abandon you.
If you have not already, we also encourage you to examine your heart before the Lord. Is there any area where you have placed your trust in man or in wealth rather than in Him? Repent and turn to Him afresh, for He alone is worthy of your trust. He is your Provider, your Defender, and your Redeemer.
Lastly, we must ask: Do you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? If not, we implore you to turn to Him today. There is no greater security than being found in Christ, no greater hope than the promise of eternal life with Him. If you have never surrendered your life to Him, we urge you to do so now. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection for your salvation, and commit your life to following Him. It is only in His name that we have access to the Father, and it is only through Him that we find true peace, even in the midst of storms.
*"Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me’* (John 14:6). *"If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved"* (Romans 10:9). We pray that you would find your ultimate hope in Him, now and forever.
