We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this precious marriage of ten years and the two children who are a testament to the love that once flourished between you and your wife. Father God, we know that You hate divorce, for You say in Malachi 2:16, *"For I hate divorce," says the Lord, the God of Israel, "and him who covers his garment with violence!" says the Lord of Armies. Therefore take heed to your spirit, that you don’t deal treacherously."* Yet we also know that You are a God of restoration, mercy, and healing. We cry out to You now, asking that You would soften your wife’s heart and open her eyes to the covenant she made before You.
Lord Jesus, we ask that You would intervene in this situation with Your mighty power. You are the Great Physician, the One who binds up the brokenhearted and sets the captives free. We pray that You would heal the wounds in this marriage, that You would remove any bitterness, pride, or unforgiveness that may have taken root. We declare that what the enemy intended for destruction, You will turn for good, for You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20).
We also lift up this husband before You, Lord. We pray that You would strengthen him in this difficult season, that You would fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Give him wisdom and discernment as he navigates this trial, and help him to respond with grace, humility, and love, even when it is hard. Remind him that his identity is found in You alone, and that You are his ever-present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1).
Father, we rebuke any spirit of division, strife, or hardness of heart that may be at work in this marriage. We declare that this marriage is under the blood of Jesus, and we speak life, restoration, and reconciliation over it. We pray that You would bring godly counsel and support into their lives—people who will speak truth in love and encourage them to fight for their marriage as You intended.
Lord, we know that marriage is a sacred covenant, not just between two people, but before You. We pray that both of them would seek You first, that they would lay down their own desires and surrender to Your will. Help them to remember the vows they made before You, and give them the strength to honor those vows, even when it is difficult.
We also pray for the children in this family. Father, protect their hearts and minds during this time. Give them peace and security, and help them to see Your love and faithfulness even in the midst of uncertainty. Surround them with Your angels and keep them from fear or anxiety.
Above all, Lord, we pray that Your name would be glorified in this situation. Whether You choose to restore this marriage or lead them in separate paths, we ask that You would be honored and that Your will would be done. Give this husband the grace to trust You, even when he doesn’t understand. Remind him that You are working all things together for his good (Romans 8:28), and that Your plans for him are plans for peace and not for harm (Jeremiah 29:11).
We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who makes all things new. Amen.
