Lord Jesus, Save my Marriage, ### and ### | URGENT INTERCESSION NEEDED

Doroisarersor

Disciple of Prayer
6 months ago, my wife ### asked me to move out, saying I was manipulative and abusive. We haven't spoken face-to-face since. I am deeply repentant for my transgressions and doing everything in my power to be a better man. She is the love of my life.

She recently emailed me a division of assets proposal and asked to move forward with a divorce. I begged her to meet with me alongside a trusted pastor or counselor to seek the Lord together.

Please pray that God intervenes to restore our communication, soften her heart, and grant forgiveness. Please ask the Holy Spirit to heal our marriage, reignite her love for me, and give her a desire to meet face-to-face with a pastor.

We hear the deep pain and urgency in your cry and we join with you before the throne of grace to seek the Lord together in Jesus' name for your marriage. We thank you for your honesty in confessing that your wife experienced manipulation and abuse and for your desire to repent and become a better man. That sorrow is the beginning of the work God wants to do in you.

We believe with you that marriage is a sacred covenant ordained by God between a man and a woman for life. Jesus said, So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate, Matthew 19:6. The Lord has also said that He hates divorce, Malachi 2:16, and His heart is for reconciliation and healing where sin has brought division. We stand with you in praying for restoration rather than dissolution.

At the same time we must speak truth in love about what you have confessed. Scripture commands husbands, Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it, Ephesians 5:25, and Husbands, love your wives, and do not be bitter against them, Colossians 3:19. Manipulation and abuse, whether through words, control, anger, or intimidation, is sin against God and against your wife and violates the calling to dwell with your wife according to knowledge and to honor her, 1 Peter 3:7. Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and not to be regretted, 2 Corinthians 7:10, and it bears fruit. He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy, Proverbs 28:13, and If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9. True repentance is more than words of regret or begging for another chance. It is a turning away from sin, a humbling of self, and a sustained change empowered by the Holy Spirit that must be demonstrated over time through accountability, counsel, self control, and gentleness. The Lord calls us to be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, James 1:19, and that love is patient and is kind, 1 Corinthians 13:4.

We encourage you to continue to walk out this repentance faithfully even while you are separated. Remain under the care of a trusted pastor or biblical counselor individually, not only together, so that your character is being shaped and tested and so that you learn to love without control or pressure. Begging, even with good intentions, can feel like further manipulation if it does not honor her boundaries and her need for safety and space to hear from the Lord. We urge you to show honor by respecting her process, by praying and fasting rather than pressing, and by letting your changed life speak louder than your appeals. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you, Ephesians 4:32, is the standard for both of you, but forgiveness and reconciliation are not forced, they are cultivated as God heals hearts.

We also lift up your wife before the Lord. We do not know the depth of her hurt, but God does, and He is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit, Psalm 34:18. We pray that the Lord would bring comfort to her, healing to her wounds, and clarity as she seeks Him. We pray that God would soften her heart where it has grown hard from pain, that He would give her a new heart and put a new spirit within her, Ezekiel 36:26, and that He would guard her from bitterness while also giving her wisdom.

We now pray together.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, who alone gives us access to Your throne. We lift this husband and his wife and their covenant marriage to You. Lord, You see the separation of six months, the silence, the proposal for divorce, and the ache in this husband's heart. You see every sin committed through manipulation and harshness, and we confess it with him as sin. Forgive him through the blood of Jesus and cleanse him and create in him a clean heart. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit so that he walks in humility, patience, self control, and sacrificial love. Help him to die to himself and to love his wife as Christ loved the church.

Lord, we ask You to intervene in this marriage for Your glory. We ask You to restore communication in Your perfect timing and way. We pray You would soften his wife's heart, heal her memories and wounds, and surround her with godly counsel and Your peace. Grant her the gift of forgiveness as You have forgiven us, and give her, if it is Your will, a renewed love and a willingness to meet face to face with a trusted pastor or counselor to seek You together. Remove any wall of fear or hurt that would prevent that meeting, and let it be a safe, Christ centered time of listening and truth. Restrain the enemy who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy this union, and we ask You to restore what has been broken, for You have promised to restore the years that the locust has eaten, Joel 2:25.

Father, we pray that whether or not she responds quickly, this husband would remain steadfast in prayer, in holiness, and in respect for his wife, trusting Your sovereignty and not leaning on his own understanding. Let Your will be done in this marriage. If reconciliation is Your will, make a way where there seems to be no way. Give both of them hearts to seek You first above all else. We thank You that You hear us when we pray in Jesus' name and that nothing is impossible with You. We place this marriage in Your hands and ask for Your mercy, healing, and restoration. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord we pray, amen.

We are grateful you reached out and we hear how heavy these six months have been. To love your wife deeply, to hear her name manipulative and abusive behavior, and to sit with that separation and now a divorce proposal is heartbreaking. Thank you for naming your part and wanting to become a better man. That desire to take responsibility matters.

Part of genuine repentance is also respecting her boundaries right now, even while you long to meet face to face. Pressing for a meeting, even with a pastor present, can feel like pressure to her. A steady next step we encourage is to seek individual counsel first, with a trusted pastor or a Christian counselor experienced with harmful relationship patterns, who can walk with you in accountability and growth over time. Bring the division of assets proposal to that counselor as well so you handle the practical and legal side wisely and fairly, without using it to reopen contact she has not welcomed.

We are holding you both before the Lord, asking for safety, healing, and clear wisdom for each of you in the days ahead.

Father, we bring this husband and his wife to You in Jesus name. Bring healing where there has been hurt, guard them both, and give this man humility, patience and wise counsel as he seeks to walk rightly. Lead each step according to Your will and grant peace and discernment to them both. Amen.

Your burden has been brought before the Lord and before His people, and we join you in earnest prayer over this grievous breach in your marriage. We hear the sorrow in your words, the weight of six months of separation, and the urgency you feel as your wife has spoken of dividing assets and moving toward divorce. Marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman before God, and it is right to seek the Lord for healing where sin has wounded it, and to entreat Him for mercy and restoration according to His holy will.

You speak of deep repentance, and here we must deal faithfully with your soul for your eternal good. The Scriptures and the witness of faithful preaching remind us that there are two kinds of repentance. One is a carnal repentance, of the flesh and after the manner of the sinful nature, stirred by judgment or by the fear of loss, and it passes away when the pressure lifts. The other is a true repentance, wrought in the renewed heart by the Holy Spirit, which gives God glory. It stands at the Cross and sees sin forgiven, and then repents more than ever because it sees what that sin laid upon Christ. It is a repentance unto life, practical and lasting, which yields works meet for repentance, which pulls down what is evil and builds up what is holy, which purges dead works and is filled with living works.

We urge you, as before the Lord whom no man can deceive, to weigh your repentance in these balances with great care and jealousy. Have you a repentance that leads you to look out of self to Christ, and to Christ only, or a repentance that chiefly seeks to regain what has been lost? A right repentance weeps and abhors past life because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it, and it avoids present sin because of the love of God who died for us. It does not last for a season only, but lives as long as faith lives. Therefore we exhort you not to make your repentance a plea to persuade your wife, but a humble walk before God under the watchful care of a trusted pastor and godly counselors who can speak plainly to you about the charges of manipulation and abuse. Those words must be taken with utmost seriousness. True love does not press, coerce, or beg in a way that becomes another form of pressure. It respects boundaries, it submits to accountability, it learns to do justly and to walk humbly, and it bears fruit over time that others can see and test.

There is forgiveness with God, and this is the first and chief hope we set before you. If you tremble and with a penitent heart desire forgiveness, hear the sure word, There is forgiveness. It is divine forgiveness, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions, surprising and complete, an absolute forgiveness of the debt through the blood of Jesus Christ, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God. However sinful your life has been up until now, there is forgiveness with Him for all who come by faith in His Son, and that forgiveness is offered now. Seek that first. Be reconciled to God through Christ, and let your repentance and faith be inseparable, the one ejecting sin as an evil tenant and the other admitting Christ to be sole Master of the heart.

Concerning your wife, we will pray for her as Christ commands us to pray for those who have been wounded and who must make weighty decisions. We cannot ask God to compel her affections or to grant a forgiveness that she is not free before the Lord to give, nor would it be loving to ask Him to bless a mere outward reunion without a true inward renewal. Forgiving one another is a joint work of grace, and while we are to forgive as God for Christ's sake has forgiven us, that human forgiveness cannot be demanded or manipulated, it must be the free movement of a heart under the Spirit of God. What we may ask is that the Lord would heal her hurts, guard her, grant her wisdom and counsel, and work in both of you what is pleasing in His sight.

We pray now for you both.

O Lord, Thou God of all grace, with whom there is forgiveness that Thou mayest be feared, look in mercy upon this broken covenant. Thou knowest all transgressions and all wounds. Grant to this husband true repentance unto life, not of the flesh but of the Spirit, a repentance that gives Thee glory, that is practical and lasting, that brings forth works meet for repentance. Create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him, and keep him under faithful pastoral care, that he may learn to walk in truth, to put away manipulation and all unkindness, and to bear the fruit of the Spirit in patience and humility.

Lord, we lift up his wife before Thee. Thou knowest her sorrow and her reasons. Heal what has been broken, soften what needs softening only as Thou seest fit, and guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. If it be Thy will, restore communication in a safe and godly manner and give a desire to meet face to face with a trusted pastor or counselor to seek Thee together. Yet not our will but Thine be done. Grant to both a clear sense of Thy presence, wisdom for every step regarding assets and decisions, and protection from further sin or harm.

Father, keep this brother from making his hope rest upon regaining his marriage alone, but cause him to rest upon Christ and His finished work. Let him know the completeness and certainty of Thy forgiveness through Jesus, and from that fountain let a new life flow. Make him willing to wait, to be accountable, to accept no as well as yes, and to honor Thee whether the marriage is healed on this earth or not.

We ask this for Christ's sake, trusting that Thou hearest the cries of penitent hearts, and that Thy goodness leadeth to repentance. Amen.

Continue, brother, in the means of grace, in the Word, in prayer, and in steady submission to your pastor. Do not pursue your wife with repeated pleas that she has asked you to cease, but let your life speak. Entrust her and your marriage to the Lord who does all things well, and seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.
