Lord I'm Trying to Understand

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Lord we pray and we pray. But things don't always get answer, my mom made it through the storm and gave us one more day with her. And now she with you. I prayed for more time with her. I want her to know I didn't my best. I pray every day for my family but nothing but heart breaks. I try not to question you but what can I do to think differently. I question why do we pray and no answer. In Jesus Name I Pray. Amen

We hear the deep ache and honesty in your prayer and we join with you in bringing it before the Lord together in Jesus' name. We thank you for sharing your heart so openly about your mom and your family, and we grieve with you in this season of loss while also giving thanks with you that the Lord gave you one more day with your mother before He called her home.

We understand the questions that rise up when we pray so faithfully and yet still walk through heartbreak. You are not alone in feeling this way, and even King David and others in Scripture cried out with similar questions. What you are feeling does not mean you lack faith, it means you are human and hurting and in need of the comfort only God can give.

We want to gently remind you that God does hear every prayer prayed in Jesus' name, and He does answer, but His answers and His timing are according to His perfect wisdom and love, not always according to what we ask. As it is written, My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says Yahweh. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28. Sometimes His answer is yes, sometimes it is no, and sometimes it is wait, but it is always rooted in His love and His eternal perspective which we cannot fully see from where we stand.

Your prayer for more time with your mom was heard. The Lord in His mercy did give you that one more day, which is a precious gift, and now if she knew Jesus as her Savior she is present with Him and free from the storm. We do not grieve as those who have no hope, for if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 4:14. If your mom trusted in Christ, you will see her again, for He will wipe away from them every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more, neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. Revelation 21:4. We also hear you saying you want her to know you did your best. Be assured that God saw your love and care, your mother knew your love, and the Lord who sees the heart is full of mercy and grace toward you. Do not carry guilt that God Himself has not placed on you.

When you pray daily for your family and see only heartbreak, it is easy to wonder what is the purpose of prayer. We pray not to change God's mind as if He were reluctant, but to draw near to Him, to align our hearts with His will, and to invite His power and peace into situations only He can heal. This is the confidence which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. 1 John 5:14. Prayer also changes us, it renews our minds so we can think differently. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2. To think differently is to choose to trust His character even when we do not understand His ways, remembering that Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3.

We are thankful you prayed in Jesus' name, for it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. Continue to come boldly to Him, even with your questions, for He invites you to cast all your cares upon Him.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. You see the grief over a beloved mother now with You, and the ongoing heartbreak for family. Lord, we ask You to wrap Your arms of comfort around this heart, to heal the brokenness and bind up every wound. Give peace that surpasses all understanding as we are told, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. Help our friend to not grow weary in prayer but to continue steadfastly, rejoicing in hope, enduring in troubles, continuing steadfastly in prayer. Romans 12:12. Renew this mind, Lord, to trust Your goodness even in the storm, to rest in Your promise that You are working all things for good, and to find rest in Your Son who said, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28. Assure this heart that every prayer has been heard, that Your love has not failed, and that You are near. Give strength for each day, hope for the family, and the comfort of knowing we will see our loved ones again in Christ. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to keep praying, keep reading His Word daily, and keep bringing even your doubts to Him honestly. He is not disappointed by your questions, He wants to walk with you through them. He is the Father of mercies and God of all comfort who comforts us in all our affliction. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4. Lean into Him now, and He will carry you through this valley.

We hear how heavy this is, and thank you for sharing it so honestly with us.

Losing your mom after praying so hard for more time with her leaves a deep ache, and it makes sense that you are left wondering about prayer itself. Wanting her to know you did your best for her tells us how much love was there. That kind of guilt and second guessing is very common in grief, even when love was clearly given.

Questioning does not mean you have failed in your faith. Many believers have walked through seasons where God felt silent and prayer felt unanswered, especially after a painful loss. Grief is a unique and personal journey and there is no single timeline for how it unfolds. For a while it can bring waves of sadness, yearning, disbelief and exhaustion, and that does not mean something is wrong with you.

If it helps, we have found it can be healing to keep praying honestly, even with the questions. Not with polished words, but simply telling God what is on your heart that day, including the hurt and confusion. It can also help to let one or two trusted people walk with you in this season, whether family, a pastor, or a grief support group, so you are not carrying it alone.

Father, we lift this dear one to You in Jesus' name. You see the love for his mom and the heartbreak and questions he carries now. Draw near to him with Your comfort and peace, remind him he is heard and not alone, and gently guide him day by day as he grieves. Give wisdom and strength to his family as well. Amen.

I'm sorry for your loss, May God protect and comfort you and your family. May His love and grace surround you and bring you peace. In Jesus'name I pray, Amen

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer has come up before the Lord, and though the answer has not been as your heart desired, be assured that it has not been unheard. There is a heaviness in your words which the Father knows well, and He does not despise the sighs and tears of His children.

You prayed for your mother, and the Lord in His mercy gave you one more day with her. That day was not a small thing, it was a manifest token that He heard you. And now that she is taken from you, grief makes you ask, why do we pray if no answer comes. This is a question which many of the Lord's people have carried in their own bosoms.

Brethren must not take delays in prayer for denial. God's long dated bills will be punctually honored. Unanswered petitions are not unheard. God keeps a file for our prayers. They are not blown away by the wind, they are treasured in the King's archives. There is a registry in the court of Heaven where every prayer is recorded. Your sighs and your tears are not fruitless.

Yet unanswered prayer should also be to every Christian a search warrant. It bids us examine ourselves to see whether there is not something harbored within which is contrary to the will of God, and to pray, Search me, O God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. Not that every unanswered prayer means secret sin, but it calls us to come more honestly before Him, to get the promise and then offer the prayer. When we plead what God has promised in Christ, the prayer will be answered as sure as God is God.

Do not spurn prayer because the answer tarries. Still cry, both in the daytime and at night, for the Lord will still hear your prayer. Prayer in the day of trouble is honest speech with God, and it brings honor to Him in the very act, for it proves that God is a fact to you. You turn to Him and not to another, and He has joined to that turning the assurance, I will deliver you. His deliverance may not be in the form we have pictured, but it will come, and it will be seen to be full of mercy.

You ask what you can do to think differently. Look back upon the manifold answers God has already given you. You asked for mercy for yourself, and He blotted out your sin like a cloud for Christ's sake. You have prayed with a broken heart when you felt you could not pray, and even the inward groaning was heard. Sincere prayer may often be very feeble to us, but it is always acceptable to God. He does not hear us because of the length of our prayer, but because of the sincerity of it, and because we come through Jesus Christ alone, who is the only way of salvation.

Go on to pray for your family. Intercessory prayer is the sweetest prayer God ever hears, for it is like the prayer of Christ Himself. Take each dear one by name before the throne, plead the covenant promise, O God of my father Abraham, and argue with Him as Jacob did, Do as You have said. He is willing, ever waiting, prayer to hear, ready His kind words fulfilling.

May the Lord quicken you in His way, turn your eyes from vain sorrows to His faithful character, and give you grace to trust Him even when you cannot trace Him. He that has taught you to pray will teach you also to wait, and in His own time you shall see that not one good word of His has fallen to the ground.

Your words carry both deep love and deep pain, and God hears that honest cry. Thank you for bringing it before Him so openly. To lose your mother after praying so earnestly for more time, to thank Him for one more day and then to feel the ache of her absence, is a heavy sorrow. It is not wrong to feel that sorrow or to ask why. Even those closest to Jesus wept and questioned and looked to Him for comfort when grief was fresh.

Prayer is not overlooked by God. He is not far away or slow to listen. Scripture says He is a God near at hand, not far off, and that while we are yet speaking He answers, Here I am. Your prayers for your mother, for your family, for more time, were heard. That He gave you one more day was a mercy, and that He has now received her is not a sign that He did not hear, but that His answer is larger than this present life. What we ask for is often for this life to continue, but what Christ offers through His grace is not only this life but immortal and eternal life. That gift is greater than life itself, because it is its source and its hope.

That does not take away the heartbreak you feel now. Grief itself can be a place where God works. Tears sown in love and faith can become seeds of deeper joy, and a time of affliction on earth can prepare us for rest with Him. To grieve with hope is not to deny the pain, but to let the pain draw you nearer to the One who is near to you.

When you ask what you can do to think differently, consider these simple ways to draw near to Him each day. Keep praying, even with short honest prayers, and do not think you must pray perfectly to be heard. God hears the watchful, humble heart that keeps calling on Him. Lean on the prayers of others as well, as the first believers continued together with one accord in prayer, and let your church family carry you when your own strength is weak. Bring your questions to Him in Scripture, especially the psalms, where many faithful people asked why and still trusted Him. And allow yourself to mourn with hope, remembering that love for your mother can continue in honoring her memory and living faithfully before God.

He has not left you alone in this. He is present with you in this sorrow, He knows the love you had for your mother and the desire to have done your best for her, and He is able to give you peace as you keep seeking Him. We are praying with you now that God will comfort you, steady your heart, guard your family, and help you feel His nearness day by day. May He give you rest in His love and hope in the eternal life He promises through Jesus Christ.
