The Parent’s and Pastor’s Joy
The greatest joy for parents and pastors is seeing their children live out God’s truth in daily life.
We join with you in lifting up your precious son and daughter before the Lord, and we are so encouraged by your heart to cover them in prayer from the top of their heads to the soles of their feet and to ask for the Lord's hand to guide them every step of the way.

The Word reminds us that children are a gift from God, for Psalm 127:3 says Behold, children are a heritage of Yahweh. The fruit of the womb is his reward. And we know He hears a parent's cry for wisdom and protection. Proverbs 22:6 tells us Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. Isaiah 54:13 gives us a beautiful promise, All your children will be taught by Yahweh, and great will be the peace of your children. We also cling to Psalm 91:11, For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways, and to Psalm 32:8 where the Lord says I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you.

We pray together for your children now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, thanking You for these two precious lives You have entrusted to this parent. We ask You to place Your hand upon them and guide them and protect them. Cover them with the blood of Jesus shed on the cross for their salvation and protection. Lead them not into temptation but deliver them from evil as You taught us in Matthew 6:13, and keep them from bad influences and from the snares of this world. Give them a love for Your light and a desire to walk down the right path in obedience to You.

We lift up their time in school, Lord, and ask that You would give them attentive hearts, understanding minds, and a willingness to listen and learn. Grant them wisdom beyond their years, for James 1:5 promises But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. Pour out upon them salvation, wisdom, understanding, loving kindness, patience, and good health.

For the daughter, we ask that You would soften her heart and transform her attitude by Your Holy Spirit. Help her to walk in honor and obedience, remembering Ephesians 6:1 which says Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Remove any spirit of rebellion and replace it with a gentle and respectful spirit that seeks to please You.

For the son with special needs, we ask for Your tender mercy and healing touch upon his behavior and communication. You formed him with purpose and love, and we ask that You would help him to grow, to express himself, and to be understood, and to know how deeply he is loved by You and by his family. Let Your Holy Spirit always be with him, comforting him and guiding him.

Lord, fill their home with Your peace and joy. Let these children grow to know You personally as Savior, to love Your Word, and to experience the goodness You offer to all Your children. Strengthen this parent with patience and faith as they continue to train and nurture them in Your ways. We thank You that You are holding their hands every step of the way and that You will never leave them nor forsake them. We ask all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We hear how much you love your son and daughter and how deeply you want them covered, guided and kept close to the Lord every step of the way. Thank you for bringing them before God so faithfully, from the top of their heads to the soles of their feet.

We are joining you in prayer for their protection at school and at home, that they would be kept from harmful influences and temptation and would learn to make wise, kind choices. We also hear your specific hopes for each of them, for your daughter that her attitude would soften and she would be less rebellious, and for your son that he would continue to grow in behavior and communication as he navigates his special needs.

One simple thing that helps many parents in this season is to keep a short, consistent time of prayer for each child by name in the morning and at night, and to look for small moments in the day to notice and affirm the good you see in them. For your son, continuing to stay connected with his teachers and with his pediatrician or therapists who know him well can be a steady support alongside prayer, and for your daughter, a few calm minutes together each day just to listen can often open the door for better communication.

Father, we lift this dear parent and these two precious children to You. Keep them in Your care, draw each of them to know Your love and salvation, fill them with wisdom, patience and kindness, and give them health and peace. Give this parent strength and encouragement for each day and let Your hand guide this family. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer for your son and your daughter has been laid before the Lord with thankfulness, and we join our hearts with yours in bringing these precious children before the throne of grace.

What a mercy it is that the Lord takes our children to be His own charge. As the prophet says, He teaches His children to walk, holding them by the hand, because they are His own offspring. Like as a father pities his children, so the Lord pities them that fear Him, and He is patient with our mistakes and slow to chide us. May this be your comfort, that He who holds your hand will also hold theirs every step of the way, and will not let them go.

We pray with you that the Lord will keep them from evil influences and from temptation, and guide them in the right path. There are great principles which God infuses into those who take Him for their Guide, chief among them to avoid everything that is evil and to bow with submission to His will. In that submission we find unerring guidance. Pray also that they may be kept from haste, which is the author of so much mischief, and that by dwelling near to God they may receive that special illumination of mind which keeps the feet from wandering. The Lord is able to cover them from the top of the head to the sole of the foot with the precious blood of Jesus, which alone can cleanse and keep.

For your daughter we ask the Lord to work a gentle and obedient spirit within her, to turn away rebellion and to give her a heart that loves what is good. For your son, whom God has entrusted to you with special needs, we ask the Lord for grace in his growth and in his communication, and for daily strength and patience for you who care for him. Remember that God does not sanctify children into men, but He sanctifies children in their own childlike way, and even the youngest are capable of deep piety when the Spirit of God gives a new heart and a right spirit. This is what we most earnestly seek for them both, that the Holy Spirit would dwell with them, and that they would be saved through faith in Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name by which we must be saved.

We pray that the Lord will grant to each of them wisdom, understanding, loving kindness, patience and good health, and all that He so freely gives to His children. May our children be His children, and may He preserve them in Jesus Christ and call them to Himself.

We will continue in special and earnest prayer for you and for your household, that mercy and peace and love may be multiplied to you, and that you may see the light of His countenance upon your home. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

Your prayer for your son and daughter has been heard and I join you in bringing them before the Lord who loves them more than any parent can.

God desires to guide and protect your children and to hold their hand every step of the way. Scripture pictures His care as a hen gathering her chickens under her wings, warm and watchful over her brood. When we instill the fear of the Lord in our children from their first youth, He Himself becomes their protection, a wall that cannot be broken, better than any other guard we could provide. No outward contrivance can do what His presence within them can do.

You asked that they make good choices and walk down the right path and not be led into temptation or become a bad influence to others. This is the very work of teaching them the fear of the Lord. As it is written, Come, you children, listen to me, I will teach you the fear of the Lord. This fear is not only taught by words but by a life lived before them. Keep your tongue from evil, turn from evil and do good, seek peace and pursue it, and let them see that pattern in your home, in your speech, and in your prayers. Teach them diligently, rebuke and admonish with love, and command and model for them how to show mercy, to help those in need, and to walk in wisdom.

I pray with you now for both of your children.

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, through whom alone is salvation, I ask You to cover this son and daughter with the blood of Jesus from the top of their heads to the soles of their feet. Keep them from temptation and from every harmful influence at school and wherever they go. Give them a love for what is right and the courage to choose it. Let Your Holy Spirit dwell with them, granting them salvation, wisdom, understanding, loving kindness, patience and good health according to Your perfect will. Guide their steps and let them see Your light.

For the daughter, I ask that You soften her heart and change her attitude, that rebellion would give way to respect and obedience and a gentle spirit. For the son with special needs, I ask for Your mercy on his behavior and his communication, that You would help him to grow, to be understood and to understand, and to know he is fearfully and wonderfully made and crowned with Your glory and honor. Give his parents patience, insight and strength to nurture him each day.

Continue to pray without ceasing, to teach them the Word, and to correct them in love. God honors the faithful labor of a parent who does these things not by words only but by works and deeds. Trust Him to do what you cannot do and to complete the good work He has begun in them.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
