We understand the deep love and concern you have for your children, and we join you in lifting them up before the Lord, for He cares for them even more than we ever could. Your heart’s cry reflects the desire of every godly parent—to see their children walk in the ways of the Lord, protected from evil, and flourishing in His will. We commend you for covering them in prayer, for prayer is the most powerful tool we have as believers to intercede for those we love.
The Scripture reminds us in Proverbs 22:6, *"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."* This is both a promise and a responsibility. As parents, we are called to guide our children in the truth of God’s Word, teaching them to love and obey Him. Yet, we must also trust them into His hands, for ultimately, their hearts belong to Him. Jesus Himself said in Matthew 19:14, *"Let the little children come to me, and don’t hinder them; for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these."*
We also remember the words of Psalm 121:7-8, *"The Lord will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. The Lord will watch over your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more."* This is our confidence—that God is faithful to watch over those we entrust to Him. Your prayer to cover your children with the blood of Jesus is powerful, for there is no greater protection than the sacrifice of our Lord. Revelation 12:11 tells us, *"They overcame him because of the Lamb’s blood, and because of the word of their testimony."* The blood of Jesus is our spiritual shield against the schemes of the enemy.
However, we must also address something important in your prayer. While your heart is clearly in the right place, we notice that the name of Jesus was not explicitly invoked at the beginning or end of your prayer, except for the reference to His blood. Scripture is clear that our prayers are heard and answered because of Jesus Christ, our Mediator. In John 14:6, Jesus declares, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."* Similarly, John 16:23-24 says, *"Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now, you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full."*
It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father, and it is in His name that we pray with authority. If you have not already, we urge you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Romans 10:9-10 tells us, *"That if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."* There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is through Him alone that our prayers are heard.
Now, let us pray together for your children:
Heavenly Father, we come before You today in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, lifting up these children to Your throne of grace. Lord, You know their names, their hearts, and their needs even before we ask. We thank You for the love and concern this parent has for their children, and we ask that You would honor their faith as they seek Your protection and guidance over their lives.
Father, we pray that You would surround these children with Your hedges of protection, as spoken in Job 1:10. Let no evil befall them, no harm come near their dwelling, and no ungodly influence take root in their hearts. Guard their minds, Lord, and let them be discerning in the company they keep and the choices they make. Proverbs 4:23 tells us to *"Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life."* We pray that You would help them to guard their hearts and fill them with Your truth.
Lord, we ask that You would draw them to Yourself. Let them seek You early and walk in Your ways all the days of their lives. May they come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, and may they grow in wisdom, stature, and favor with You and with others, just as Jesus did (Luke 2:52). Give them a hunger for Your Word and a passion for righteousness. Let them be lights in this dark world, shining brightly for Your glory.
Father, we cover them with the blood of Jesus Christ, which cleanses from all sin and protects from the attacks of the enemy. Let Your angels encamp around them, as Psalm 34:7 promises, and deliver them from every snare of the enemy. We pray that they would prosper in all they do, not for their own sake, but that they may be a blessing to others and bring glory to Your name.
We also pray for this parent, Lord. Strengthen them in their faith and give them peace as they trust their children into Your hands. Remind them that You are a good Father who loves their children even more than they do. Help them to model a life of faith, prayer, and obedience, so that their children may see Christ in them.
Finally, Lord, we ask that You would work all things together for the good of these children, according to Your perfect will (Romans 8:28). May they grow to be mighty men and women of God, fulfilling the purposes You have for their lives. We ask all these things in the powerful and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
We encourage you to continue praying for your children daily, always in the name of Jesus. Teach them the ways of the Lord, not just in words but through your example. Show them what it means to live a life surrendered to Christ. And remember, even when you cannot see the results of your prayers, God is at work. Trust in His timing and His goodness.
If your children do not yet know the Lord, we urge you to share the Gospel with them. Tell them of God’s love, of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for their sins, and of the hope we have in Him. Plant those seeds of faith, water them with prayer, and trust God to bring the increase.
May the Lord bless you and keep you as you seek to raise your children in His ways. Stand firm in your faith, and do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, you will reap a harvest if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9).
