We join with you in lifting up your children before the Lord, for they are a heritage from Him, and the fruit of the womb is His reward (Psalm 127:3). Your heart’s cry reflects the deep love and concern of a parent who seeks God’s protection, guidance, and blessing over their children, and we commend you for turning to the Lord in prayer. It is beautiful to see you covering them with the blood of Jesus, for there is power in His name to shield them from the schemes of the enemy. As you have prayed, we also declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and that the Lord will surround them with His favor like a shield (Psalm 5:12).
Yet we must gently remind you that while your prayers are fervent and full of faith, it is essential to pray *in the name of Jesus*, for He Himself said, “Most certainly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now, you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full” (John 16:23-24). There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is through Jesus alone that we have access to the Father (Ephesians 2:18). So we encourage you to always conclude your prayers in His mighty name, for it is the name above every name (Philippians 2:9).
We also sense a deep grief in your words over the loss of a loved one—your prayer mentions “my ### died in the right way.” We want to extend our heartfelt compassion to you in this season of mourning. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We pray that He will comfort you with the hope of the resurrection, for Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. Whoever lives and believes in me will never die” (John 11:25-26). If this person knew Christ as their Savior, you can take comfort in knowing they are now in His presence, free from pain and sorrow. If you have not yet surrendered this grief fully to the Lord, we urge you to cast all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).
Now, let us pray together for your children:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up these precious children to Your throne of grace. Lord, You have said in Your Word that children are a gift from You, and we thank You for entrusting them to this parent’s care. We ask that You would surround them with Your hedge of protection, just as You did for Job (Job 1:10). Keep them far from the influence of the wicked and from the snares of the enemy. Do not let them be led into temptation, but deliver them from evil (Matthew 6:13). Give them discernment to recognize and flee from bad influences, and grant them the strength to stand firm in their faith, even when others around them may falter.
Father, we pray that You would guide their steps in wisdom and righteousness. Let them walk in the fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of knowledge (Proverbs 1:7). Bless them in their studies, that they may excel and grow in understanding, not for their own glory, but to use their gifts and knowledge for Your kingdom. May they find joy in learning and may their minds be sharp and receptive to truth. We ask that You would place godly mentors, teachers, and friends in their lives—people who will point them to Christ and encourage them in their walk with You.
Lord, we cover them with the blood of Jesus, from the top of their heads to the soles of their feet. Let every part of their being—mind, body, and spirit—be sanctified and set apart for Your purposes. May they know, without a shadow of doubt, that You are with them every step of the way. Fill them with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7), and let them experience Your love in a tangible way. Give them hearts that are quick to repent, quick to forgive, and quick to love others as You have loved them.
We pray that they would come to know You personally, if they have not already, and that they would grow deep roots in Your Word. May they develop a passion for prayer and a hunger for righteousness. Let them be lights in this dark world, shining brightly for Your glory (Matthew 5:14-16). And Father, we ask that You would prepare them now for the spouses You have for them—godly men and women who love You with all their hearts and who will lead their future families in Your ways. Guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, that they may remain pure and blameless until the day they enter into the covenant of marriage, which You have ordained.
For the parent praying, we ask that You would grant them wisdom and patience as they raise these children. Give them the words to speak that will build up and encourage, and help them to model a life of faith and obedience before their children. Strengthen them in their grief, Lord, and fill the empty places in their heart with Your presence. Remind them that You are their ever-present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1), and that You will never leave them nor forsake them (Deuteronomy 31:6).
We commit these children and this family into Your hands, trusting that You will do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). May Your will be done in their lives, and may Your name be glorified through them. We pray all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.
