We hear your heart and we stand with you in this season where the battle has felt long and intense and joy has felt distant. We know that spiritual warfare is real and exhausting, for our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places Ephesians 6:12. The enemy prowls seeking whom he may devour, so we are called to be sober and self-controlled and steadfast in our faith 1 Peter 5:8-9, and we want you to know you are not alone in this fight.
The Lord does not want you to live under a heavy spirit but desires to restore to you the joy of His salvation Psalm 51:12 and to clothe you with a garment of praise instead of a spirit of heaviness Isaiah 61:3. True joy is not rooted in our circumstances but is a fruit of the Spirit Galatians 5:22 and comes from abiding in His presence, for in your presence is fullness of joy Psalm 16:11. We are reminded that the joy of Yahweh is your strength Nehemiah 8:10 and that even when weeping may stay for the night, joy comes in the morning Psalm 30:5. God is able to fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit Romans 15:13.
We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we gently want to remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is by placing our faith in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection for our sins, that we are reconciled to God and can come boldly before His throne to find grace and help, and to have our joy fully restored.
We pray together for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear one to You who has endured a prolonged season of spiritual warfare and feels joy has been drained away. We ask You to breathe fresh life and restore the joy of Your salvation within them. Let Your presence surround them and fill every weary place with Your peace that surpasses all understanding Philippians 4:7. We ask You to strengthen them to put on the whole armor of God Ephesians 6:11, to stand firm against the schemes of the enemy, and to remember that You will perfect, establish, strengthen and settle them after they have suffered a little while 1 Peter 5:10. Renew their mind and heart through Your Word, help them to rejoice in You always Philippians 4:4, and to count it all joy even in trials knowing You are working endurance and maturity James 1:2-3. Restore joy, rest, and hope, and let them know deeply that You are near to the brokenhearted Psalm 34:18. We pray this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and our access to You, amen.

We have heard your request and we join with you in prayer, thanking God that you have brought this heaviness into the light before Him.
You speak of seasons of intense spiritual warfare, and we do not make light of it. The battle is real, yet our comfort is that there never is any action of His, however sovereign it may appear, but is done after the counsel of His own will. Infinite wisdom dictates what absolute sovereignty decrees, and He will not suffer you to be tried beyond what you are able to bear, but will with the trial make a way of escape.
The subject you long for is joy, the joy of faith, the joy which is the fruit of the Spirit from the root of trust in God. It is pleasant to read and hear and think about joy, but to be filled with joy and peace through believing is a far more satisfying thing. This joy is not to be found abroad after others. Drink waters from your own fountain, for all your fresh springs are in Him. He that has joy on his barn floor may see it bare, he that has joy in his children may bury that joy in the grave, but he that has joy in God has a well that never runs dry.
Scripture says, Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say, Rejoice. Joy in the Lord is the cure for all discord and the cure for care. It is the concord of the soul with the joy of Heaven. Mind that you seek no joy which is not joy in the Lord, for that joy which you cannot share with God is not a right joy for you. When you can joy in nothing else, you can still joy in God. You can joy in His power, for He can help you. You can joy in His faithfulness, for He cannot fail you. You can joy in His immutability, for He changes not and therefore you are not consumed.
Even to those who sit in darkness and in the valley of the shadow of death there comes the healing breath of sweet perfume from the Redeemer's merits, and a sevenfold light that shines for them. This is the road to joy and there is no other, even Jesus Christ, by whom we have received the atonement.

O Lord our God, we lift up this dear soul before Your throne of grace. You have seen the length and weight of this warfare, You know the weariness and the nights of wrestling. We ask You to restore unto Your child the joy of Your salvation. Let the Holy Spirit, who is the Comforter, shine with clear light into the house of this heart and make glad all who dwell there. Teach this one to rejoice in You always, not in circumstances which shift, but in Your unchanging character and in the finished work of Christ. Turn care into confidence and discord into peace. Let faith again lay hold on eternal life and say, I will rejoice in Your salvation. Fill this heart with joy and peace through believing, that it may abound in hope. We are praying with you for the restoration of joy after this long and intense season of spiritual warfare. God has heard your request and He knows the weight of the battle you have been through.
Scripture reminds us that the Christian life is a warfare and that we need strong armor and a steadfast purpose of mind. You are not alone in this fight. Christ Himself stands by as your Commander, ready to help and never conquered, and He has provided the armor you need to stand firm. The present time often feels like combat and tribulation rather than rest, and it is normal to feel worn down when you have been wrestling for so long.
We also take comfort in how God restores. When His people bear trials thankfully and trust Him through loss and pressure, He is faithful to restore. As Job wrestled nobly and kept his trust in God, God in His goodness restored to him even more. In the same way, God does not leave His children empty after battle. He can fill the heart again with a joy that is not the fleeting joy of this world, but the deeper joy that comes from His presence, the joy of angels, the joy of salvation.
Let us pray together.
Father in heaven, we thank You that You see this weary heart and that You are near to those who call on You. We ask You to lift the heaviness of this long warfare and to fill this heart with Your joy and gladness. Restore the joy of Your salvation, renew strength, and let Your peace guard mind and heart in Christ Jesus. Teach us to stand firm in the armor You have given, to follow our Commander with trust, and to bear all things thankfully before You, knowing that You will bring restoration in Your perfect time. Thank you for honestly sharing how heavy and intense this season has felt. Spiritual warfare is real, and when it drags on for a long time it can leave you weary and empty, as if joy itself has been drained away. It is not a small thing to walk through that kind of pressure, and God sees how hard you have been fighting.
Scripture shows us this kind of struggle in the life of Job. He began with a full and blessed life, and then in a short time was stripped of so much. Out of that nakedness of soul came the deepest questions a person can ask, and at times he was so weary of life that he cursed the day he was born and longed for relief. Part of what was happening behind the scenes was the work of the accuser, who goes about the earth and even presents himself to accuse before God. We do not understand all of why God allows that access, but we do know God remains sovereign over it and sets its limits. The enemy accuses and shoots what feel like poisoned arrows, and the wounds they leave can make joy feel far away.
Job had also been someone who strengthened weak hands and lifted up those who were falling, yet when the trial came to him, he fainted under it. If you have spent time helping and encouraging others, it is understandable that when the battle turns on you, you feel especially depleted. That does not mean you have failed or that God has cast you away. One of the promises that comes through that story is that God does not cast away the one who seeks to walk with Him, and that He can bring joy again to the path of those who trust Him.
Even in his darkest despair Job broke through with a cry of faith, that he knew his Redeemer lives and that in the end he would see God for himself. That is where lasting joy is found, not in circumstances getting easier immediately, but in the living presence and assurance of Jesus. Though we do not see Him now, we can still rejoice with a joy that is unspeakable and full of glory because our Redeemer lives. Jesus Himself answered the deepest questions about life beyond this suffering when He said He is the resurrection and the life, and that whoever believes in Him will live even though he dies.
After all of Job's wrestling and the vain attempts of others to explain his pain, God Himself spoke. He asked Job who darkens counsel with words without knowledge, and reminded him that He is the Creator who made the heavens and the earth, who shut in the sea and clothes the clouds. The answer was not a full explanation, but a call to trust the One who made you and fashioned you and holds your life in His hands. Ultimately that is where peace returns, when we come to the place of saying, Lord, I am Yours, You know what You are doing, I will trust You.
I am praying for you now that God will restore to you the joy of His presence. May He lift the heaviness of this long warfare, quiet the voice of the accuser, and fill your heart again with the assurance that your Redeemer lives and has not left you. May He strengthen you day by day, renew your hope in the life to come, and bring back laughter and singing as you walk close to Him in the center of His will. May you know the satisfaction of simply belonging to Him and being kept by Him, and may His Spirit guard and keep you as you continue to trust Him in Jesus name.
