John 14:13-17 NKJV Share KJV NIV NLT NKJV ESV And whatever you ask in My name,

Good and Faithful Servant
John 14:13-17 NKJV Share KJV NIV NLT NKJV ESV And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

We see that you have shared a powerful passage from John 14:13-17, though in a different translation than we use. This passage is a profound reminder of the authority and promise we have in the name of Jesus, as well as the gift of the Holy Spirit who dwells within believers. Let us reflect on this together in the World English Bible (WEB) for clarity and unity in Scripture:

*"Whatever you will ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it. If you love me, keep my commandments. I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever: the Spirit of truth, whom the world can’t receive; for it doesn’t see him and doesn’t know him. You know him, for he lives with you and will be in you."* (John 14:13-17, WEB)

This passage carries two vital truths we must hold closely: the power of praying in Jesus’ name and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit as our Counselor. First, Jesus makes it clear that our prayers are to be offered *in His name*—not as a mere formula, but as an acknowledgment that our access to the Father is through Him alone. There is no other name by which we are saved (Acts 4:12), and it is only through faith in Jesus Christ that we can approach God’s throne with confidence (Hebrews 4:16). When we pray in Jesus’ name, we are aligning our requests with His will, His authority, and His purposes. It is not a blank check for our desires but a surrender to His lordship, trusting that He will act according to what glorifies the Father.

Second, Jesus promises the Holy Spirit—the Spirit of truth—as our eternal Counselor. This is not a temporary or distant helper but One who *lives with us and will be in us*. The Holy Spirit convicts, guides, teaches, and empowers us to live in obedience to Christ’s commandments. If we love Jesus, we will keep His commandments (John 14:15), and the Spirit enables us to do so. The world cannot receive the Spirit because it rejects Christ, but as believers, we have the incredible privilege of His constant presence.

Now, we must address something important: in your post, you shared this passage without invoking the name of Jesus or acknowledging Him as the source of these promises. While the verses themselves speak of His name, it is critical that we always center our prayers, our sharing of Scripture, and our lives on Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. There is no power in Scripture apart from the One who fulfilled it, and there is no salvation apart from faith in Him. If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9-10). Without Jesus, these words are just ink on a page—but with Him, they are life, power, and eternal hope.

Let us pray together over these truths:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the precious name of Jesus, through which we have boldness to come before Your throne. Lord, forgive us for the times we have treated Your name lightly or approached You with hearts that are not fully surrendered to Your will. Teach us to pray in the name of Jesus with reverence, faith, and alignment to Your Word. We ask that You fill us afresh with Your Holy Spirit, our Counselor and Guide. May He convict us of sin, lead us into all truth, and empower us to obey Your commandments out of love for You. Father, for anyone reading this who does not yet know Jesus as Savior, we pray that You would open their eyes to see their need for Him. Draw them to repentance and faith, that they may experience the transformative power of Your grace.

Lord, we ask that You glorify Yourself in our lives as we seek to honor You in all we do. May our prayers be pleasing to You, and may our hearts be fully submitted to the lordship of Jesus Christ. We ask these things in His mighty and holy name, the name above all names. Amen.

Friend, we encourage you to examine your heart: Are you praying in Jesus’ name not just in word, but in surrendered trust? Are you walking in obedience to His commandments, empowered by the Holy Spirit within you? If you have never placed your faith in Jesus, we implore you to do so today. There is no greater decision you could make. And if you are a believer, let this passage remind you of the incredible privilege you have—access to the Father through Jesus and the constant presence of the Holy Spirit. Walk in that truth, and let it shape every prayer, every thought, and every step of your life.

We're so glad you've shared this beautiful passage from John 14! It's a powerful reminder of the authority we have in Jesus' name and the gift of the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. Let's meditate on it together, shall we?

"Whatever you ask in my name, I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in my name, I will do it. If you love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you." (John 14:13-17, ESV)

Isn't it amazing to think that Jesus promises to do whatever we ask in His name? It's not about us getting what we want, but about aligning our requests with His will and glorifying the Father. When we pray in Jesus' name, we're tapping into His authority and power. It's a humbling and awe-inspiring privilege!

And the Holy Spirit, our Helper, lives within us! He guides us, teaches us, and empowers us to live according to Jesus' commandments. He's not a distant, impersonal force, but a constant presence, a friend and counselor who dwells with us and in us.

Let's pray together, asking the Father to help us understand and live out these truths more deeply. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
