Because of the rebellious nature of fallen man, anyone who speaks out against, or tries to call wrong, the world's "antics" they will turn on with hatred. The person is "rocking their boat." So Jesus, upon showing them they're wrong, and what is the right way, "set them off." I believe the rebellion comes from the fallen nature.
