Disciple of Prayer
Dear God please help me change. Please help me to stop drinking alcohol and smoking pot. I had a cyst in my spine removed and my back still hurts after having surgery. Please make my body stop shaking and sweating. Please pray for me I need help. Please help my wife to stop drinking alcohol because after having a few drinks she is so mean to me and I don't want to get a divorce.

We hear your cry for help, and we come before the throne of grace with you, lifting up your struggles to our Heavenly Father in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. First, we want to acknowledge your step of faith in reaching out—it takes courage to admit our weaknesses and ask for help. The Bible tells us in 1 Peter 5:7, "Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you." You are not alone in this battle, and God sees your pain, your fear, and your desire to change.

Your request touches on several areas where the enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but we declare that Jesus came so that you may have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10). The addictions to alcohol and marijuana are not just physical struggles—they are spiritual battles. These substances have taken hold of your body and mind, but we serve a God who is greater than any addiction. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, we are reminded, "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and it is time to reclaim it for God’s glory.

We rebuke the spirit of addiction in your life in the name of Jesus. We command every chain of alcohol and marijuana to be broken, and we declare freedom over you. The shaking and sweating you are experiencing may be withdrawal symptoms, but we pray for God’s healing touch to calm your nervous system and restore your body to wholeness. In James 5:14-15, we are told, "Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up." We stand in faith, believing that God will heal your body and give you the strength to overcome this battle.

Your physical pain after surgery is also a heavy burden, and we pray for complete healing in your spine. The cyst may be gone, but the pain lingers, and we ask God to touch you with His healing hands. Psalm 147:3 says, "He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds." We believe that God can restore your body and bring you relief from this pain. We also encourage you to seek godly medical advice and physical therapy if needed, as God often works through practical means to bring healing.

Now, we must address the situation with your wife. It is clear that her drinking is causing strife in your marriage, and we grieve with you over the pain it brings. Proverbs 20:1 warns us, "Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise." Alcohol is not just affecting her behavior—it is opening the door to spiritual oppression in your home. We rebuke the spirit of anger and strife that enters your marriage when she drinks, and we pray for her heart to be softened to the conviction of the Holy Spirit. In Ephesians 5:18, we are commanded, "Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit." We pray that she would turn away from alcohol and seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit instead.

Marriage is a sacred covenant, and God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16). We do not believe that divorce is the answer to your struggles, but we do believe that God can restore your marriage if both of you are willing to surrender to Him. We encourage you to pray for your wife daily, to speak life over her, and to model Christ’s love even when she is unkind. In 1 Peter 4:8, we are reminded, "Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, because love covers a multitude of sins." Your love for her, rooted in Christ, can be a powerful witness to her.

However, we must also address the reality that you cannot control her choices. You can love her, pray for her, and set boundaries to protect yourself, but ultimately, she must choose to turn away from alcohol. If her drinking continues to bring harm to you or your marriage, we encourage you to seek godly counsel from a pastor or Christian counselor who can help you navigate this difficult season. You are not called to endure abuse, and there may come a time when separation is necessary for your safety and well-being. But even in that, we pray for restoration and healing.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother who is crying out for help. Lord, You see his struggle with addiction, his physical pain, and the turmoil in his marriage. We ask You to break every chain of alcohol and marijuana in his life. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit and give him the strength to resist temptation. Heal his body from the shaking, sweating, and pain. Restore his spine and bring him complete healing, Lord.

We also pray for his wife, Father. Soften her heart and convict her of the harm that alcohol is bringing to her life and her marriage. Draw her to You, Lord, and fill her with a desire to be filled with Your Spirit instead of wine. We rebuke the spirit of anger and strife in their home, and we declare peace and restoration over their marriage.

Father, we know that apart from You, we can do nothing (John 15:5). But with You, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). We ask You to surround our brother with godly men who can support him, encourage him, and hold him accountable. Give him the courage to seek help, whether through Celebrate Recovery, a Christian counselor, or a support group. Provide him with the resources he needs to overcome this battle.

Lord, we also ask for Your protection over his mind. Guard him against the lies of the enemy, who would tell him that he is weak or that he cannot overcome this. Remind him that Your grace is sufficient for him, and Your power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). Fill him with hope and the assurance that You are working all things together for his good (Romans 8:28).

We declare freedom over him in the name of Jesus. We declare healing over his body, restoration over his marriage, and victory over addiction. We thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayer and for moving on his behalf. We trust in Your faithfulness and Your love for him. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to take practical steps to overcome this battle. Consider joining a support group like Celebrate Recovery, which is a Christ-centered program for those struggling with hurts, habits, and hang-ups. Surround yourself with godly men who can pray with you, encourage you, and hold you accountable. Memorize Scripture to combat the lies of the enemy—verses like 1 Corinthians 10:13, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

Also, consider fasting as a way to draw closer to God and seek His strength. In Matthew 17:21, Jesus tells us that some battles can only be won through prayer and fasting. You do not have to fast from food—you can fast from social media, television, or other distractions to focus on God. The key is to deny yourself and seek Him with all your heart.

Lastly, we want to remind you that your identity is not in your struggles. You are a child of God, redeemed by the blood of Jesus, and called to walk in freedom. Galatians 5:1 says, "Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage." You are not a slave to addiction—you are a son of the Most High God, and He has called you to live in freedom.

Keep pressing into God, brother. He is with you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). We are standing with you in prayer, believing that God will do exceedingly abundantly above all that you can ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). You are not alone in this battle. God is fighting for you, and victory is yours in Christ Jesus.

Dear friend, we're here with you, lifting your burdens to our loving Father. We're praying for strength to overcome addiction, healing for your body, and peace in your marriage. Remember, God is faithful, and He's fighting for you. Keep trusting in Him, one step at a time. We believe in you, and we're standing with you in prayer.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
