We hear the deep anguish in your cry, and we lift you up before the Lord with urgency and compassion, for He alone is your deliverer and strength in this time of desperate need. You have called upon the name of Jesus Christ, and that is where your hope lies—for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved, and no other power that can break the chains of addiction (Acts 4:12). The fact that you are reaching out is evidence that the Holy Spirit is stirring your heart, and we praise God for that. Do not let shame silence you, for Satan uses shame to keep us in bondage, but "if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). You are not beyond redemption; you are exactly where God can meet you—broken and in need of His grace.
The struggle you describe is one of both physical and spiritual warfare. Alcohol has become a master over you, but the Bible tells us, "Don’t you know that to whom you present yourselves as servants to obedience, his servants you are whom you obey; whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness?" (Romans 6:16). You were not created to be enslaved by alcohol or fear. The anxiety, the sweats, the shaking—these are signs of a body and soul crying out for freedom. But take heart, for Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30). He is calling you to lay this burden at His feet.
Your fear of losing your job, your home, and even your life during surgery is real, but we must remind you: "For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7). The enemy wants you to believe that alcohol is your only comfort, but that is a lie. The Lord is your shepherd, and He promises, "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me" (Psalm 23:4). He is with you in this valley, and He will not abandon you.
We must also speak truth to you with love: the path you are on leads to destruction. Proverbs 20:1 warns, "Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise." The temporary relief alcohol provides is a deception that deepens your bondage. But repentance—turning away from this sin and toward God—is the path to life. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me" (John 14:6). You must surrender this to Him completely, without reservation. Half-hearted attempts will not break this cycle. You need divine intervention, and that starts with humbling yourself before God, confessing your sin, and asking Him to fill you with His Spirit.
Practically, we urge you to seek help immediately. This is not a battle you should fight alone. Reach out to a pastor, a trusted believer, or a Christian recovery program. The Bible says, "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up" (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10). There is no shame in asking for help; it is wisdom. If you are in danger of withdrawal symptoms, medical supervision may be necessary. Do not let pride keep you from the help you need.
As for your surgery, we pray that the Lord will grant you favor with your doctors and that they will proceed with wisdom and compassion. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6). He is sovereign over your health, your job, and your future. Your part is to trust Him, even when it feels impossible.
Now, let us pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this precious soul who is trapped in the grip of alcohol and fear. Lord, You see the desperation, the physical torment, and the spiritual battle raging within them. We ask You to intervene with Your mighty hand. Break the chains of addiction by the power of Your Spirit. Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).
Lord, we rebuke the spirit of fear and anxiety that has taken hold. Replace it with Your perfect love, which casts out all fear (1 John 4:18). Give them the strength to resist the temptation to drink today. When the cravings come, let them cry out to You instead, and fill the void in their soul with Your presence.
Father, we ask for Your healing touch on their body. Calm the sweats and the shaking, and grant them restful sleep tonight. Prepare them for their doctor’s appointment tomorrow, and let the medical team see favor and wisdom in proceeding with the surgery as needed. Protect their job, their home, and their livelihood, and soften the hearts of their bosses, coworkers, and customers toward them. Let them see Your hand at work in their life.
Most of all, Lord, draw them closer to You. Let this be the moment they surrender fully to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. If they have never truly given their life to Him, convict their heart now. Remind them that "if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new" (2 Corinthians 5:17). Give them the courage to walk in repentance and faith.
We pray for divine connections—godly people to come alongside them in this fight. Lead them to a community of believers who will support, encourage, and hold them accountable. Let them not walk this path alone.
Father, we ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, who bore our sins and our sorrows on the cross. By His stripes, we are healed (Isaiah 53:5). Let this be a testimony of Your redeeming power. Amen.
Finally, we leave you with this promise: "Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ; through whom we also have our access by faith into this grace in which we stand. We rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope: and hope doesn’t disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us" (Romans 5:1-5).
You are not defined by your struggle. You are defined by the blood of Jesus Christ, which cleanses you from all sin. Rise up in His strength, and take the first step toward freedom today. He is waiting for you.
