We join you in lifting up this heartfelt cry for deliverance, healing, and restoration, and we are grateful you have called upon the name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him that we find true freedom, strength, and grace. Your honesty before the Lord is commendable, and we know He hears you, for His Word declares, *"Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective"* (James 5:16, WEB). You have taken the first step by acknowledging your struggles and seeking God’s help—now trust that He is faithful to complete the work He has begun in you.
The abuse of alcohol, cigarettes, and marijuana is a form of bondage that the enemy uses to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). But God’s Word tells us, *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it"* (1 Corinthians 10:13, WEB). You are not too old for God’s redemption—you are *exactly* where He wants you: broken, surrendered, and ready for His transformative power. The Holy Spirit is your Helper, and He will give you the strength to walk away from these strongholds if you lean on Him daily. We urge you to remove every trace of these substances from your home and avoid places or people that tempt you to return to them. Replace these habits with the Word of God—memorize scriptures like *"I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me"* (Philippians 4:13, WEB) and *"It is God who works in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure"* (Philippians 2:13, WEB).
Your desire to care for one another and retire from the weariness of labor is understandable, and we pray God provides wisdom and opportunity for this season of rest. However, we must gently remind you that true rest is found in Christ first, not merely in the absence of work. Jesus says, *"Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light"* (Matthew 11:28-30, WEB). Seek His kingdom first, and trust that He will provide for your needs (Matthew 6:33). If retirement is His will, He will open the doors in His perfect timing. Until then, ask Him for daily strength and joy in your labor, knowing it is unto Him.
We are deeply concerned by your mention of pain from a burst cyst in your spine, and we lift this up to the Great Physician, who *"heals all your diseases"* (Psalm 103:3, WEB). We pray for supernatural healing over your back and legs, that every nerve, muscle, and bone would be restored to full function. We also encourage you to seek wise medical counsel and follow their guidance as the Lord leads. Do not neglect the body God has given you—it is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and He desires you to steward it well, even in pain.
Your prayer for your family’s hearts to soften toward you is beautiful, and we join you in asking the Lord to bind your household together in love and unity. But we must also ask: Have you humbly approached them, confessing your need for their support during your recovery? Sometimes, God moves in the hearts of others when they see our genuine repentance and effort to change. *"If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men"* (Romans 12:18, WEB). Show them the love of Christ through your actions, and trust Him to do the rest.
We notice you referred to your wife as your "#" and your children similarly, and while we understand the intent to protect their identities, we encourage you to speak their names before the Lord in prayer. There is power in calling them by name, just as Jesus calls each of us by name (John 10:3). If you are hesitant to share their names publicly, that is wise, but in your private prayers, claim them individually before the throne of God.
Lastly, your plea to be a better man, husband, father, and employee is one we echo with great hope. The key to this transformation is not in your own strength but in surrendering daily to the Holy Spirit. *"Put off, concerning your former way of life, the old man, which grows corrupt after the lusts of deceit; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness"* (Ephesians 4:22-24, WEB). Start each day by asking God to fill you with His Spirit, to guide your words, and to give you patience and kindness. Study His Word to understand what it means to lead your family biblically, loving them as Christ loves the church (Ephesians 5:25-33).
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother who has poured out his heart with such raw honesty. Lord, we thank You that You do not despise a broken and contrite heart (Psalm 51:17) but draw near to those who call upon You in truth. Father, we ask for Your supernatural intervention in his life and the life of his family. Break the chains of addiction to alcohol, cigarettes, and marijuana—let these strongholds be shattered by the power of Your Spirit. Replace every craving with a hunger for Your Word and a thirst for Your presence. Give him the courage to walk away from these sins permanently and to fill his life with things that honor You.
Lord, we pray for complete healing over his body. Touch his spine, his back, and his legs—let every nerve and muscle be restored to full health. Remove all pain and inflammation, and grant him the strength to recover fully. Guide him to the right medical care and give wisdom to those treating him. Father, we also ask for Your provision in his work and finances. If retirement is Your will, open the doors and make the way clear. But even if it is not yet time, give him joy in his labor and the ability to work with excellence and integrity.
Softening the hearts of his wife and children toward him, Lord. Heal any wounds or bitterness in their relationships, and let forgiveness and love abound. Help him to lead his family with humility, patience, and selflessness, reflecting Your love in every interaction. Bind them together in unity and purpose, and let their home be a place of peace and refuge.
Father, we rebuke the spirit of weariness and discouragement that has tried to take hold of him. Fill him with Your hope and remind him that You are making all things new (Revelation 21:5). Grant him restful sleep tonight, free from pain and filled with Your peace. Protect his family as they travel, and bring them home safely. Provide for all their needs—spiritual, emotional, and physical—and let them experience Your goodness in every area of their lives.
Lord, we ask that You would mold him into the man, husband, father, and employee You have called him to be. Strip away every trace of the old self and clothe him in Your righteousness. Let him walk in the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). May his life be a testimony of Your transforming power.
We declare that no weapon formed against him or his family shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we thank You for the victory that is already won through Jesus Christ. Strengthen him to stand firm in faith, knowing that You who began a good work in him will complete it (Philippians 1:6).
In the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.
