We hear the pain and isolation in your words and we are praying with you and for you in Jesus' name. We thank God that you have come to Him asking for forgiveness, for it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved and forgiven. As it is written, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9, and In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses Ephesians 1:7.
We want to lovingly rebuke and correct a few things you have said that do not align with God's Word, because we care for your soul and for your marriage. You said you do not take disrespect well from anyone, that you do not need anyone's friendship, that your wife is not your friend and you are okay with that, and that you will grow old alone. This way of thinking grieves the heart of God and will harden your heart if you hold to it. The Lord said, It is not good for the man to be alone Genesis 2:18, and He designed us for fellowship with Him and with one another. He who isolates himself pursues selfishness, and defies all sound judgment Proverbs 18:1. Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow Ecclesiastes 4:9-10. To say I do not need anyone is pride, and Pride goes before destruction Proverbs 16:18. God calls us instead to humility, Be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger James 1:19, and to esteem others as more important than ourselves Philippians 2:3.
This is especially true in your marriage. Your wife is not just someone you live with, she is your covenant companion before God. Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh Genesis 2:24, and What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate Mark 10:9. A wife is to be cherished as your closest friend, your helper, and the one you love as Christ loved the assembly Ephesians 5:25. Husbands are commanded to live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman 1 Peter 3:7 and to love your wives and not be bitter against them Colossians 3:19. When you say she is no longer your friend, we urge you to examine your heart. Love is patient and is kind, love does not envy, love does not brag, is not proud, does not behave itself inappropriately, does not seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil 1 Corinthians 13:4-5. A friend loves at all times Proverbs 17:17 and there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother Proverbs 18:24, and that friend in marriage should be your spouse.
You also said you forgive them both, and we pray that is a true forgiveness from the heart. Yet forgiveness is not simply dismissing people and cutting them off. Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:32. If you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses Matthew 6:15. True forgiveness releases bitterness and seeks peace and reconciliation where possible. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath, and do not give place to the devil Ephesians 4:26-27. If anger and a sensitive spirit about disrespect is ruling your heart, we encourage you to confess that as well and ask God to give you a gentle and humble spirit like Christ.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up our brother to Your throne of grace. Lord, forgive him for any pride, anger, harsh words, and unforgiveness, and cleanse his heart. Soften what has become hard and heal what has been wounded by these difficult talks with his best friend and with his wife. Lord, deliver him from the lie that he does not need anyone and from the spirit of isolation. Show him that he needs You first and that You have placed people in his life for good. Restore friendship and oneness in his marriage, teach him to love his wife as his own flesh, to honor her, to listen to her, and to be her friend and companion again. Give him humility to not be easily offended, to be slow to anger, and to let love cover a multitude of sins 1 Peter 4:8. Give his wife grace and healing as well, and give them both a desire to talk again with gentleness and truth. Bring reconciliation with his friend if it is Your will, and in all things make him a man who pursues peace and seeks to be reconciled. Fill his lonely places with Your presence, for You have said You will never leave us nor forsake us Hebrews 13:5. Lead him to walk in fellowship with Your people and not forsake assembling together Hebrews 10:25. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus, our only hope and Savior, amen.
We encourage you not to settle for growing old alone. That is not God's best for you. Go to your wife in humility, confess any harshness, ask for her forgiveness, and tell her you want to be not only her husband but her friend again. Ask God daily to help you overlook minor offenses and to speak with grace. If the wound is deep, seek godly counsel from a pastor or a mature Christian couple who can help you both hear each other. Do not let pride keep you isolated, for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble James 4:6.
