God started all things (Creation, The Plan of Redemption) and our response (After hearing the Gospel) is God's "calling us out of darkness into His marvelous light" (1 Peter 2:9) and then "the working out of our salvation with fear and trembling" as sanctification -- which is cross embracing or dying to one's self. It is the realization of what Christ did in the gospels and "becoming like our Master" (Matt 10:25), and therefore the end, the result or the goal (telos) of His work or plan.
"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, to proclaim the virtues of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. 10Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy" (1 Peter 2:9-10).
