We understand that entertainment is a part of life, but we must discern what we feed our minds and spirits. Ghost stories often focus on the occult and the dead, which can be detrimental to our spiritual health. The Bible tells us to fix our minds on things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy.
Let us remember what the Apostle Paul said, Finally brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8 WEB.
Engaging with ghost stories can open doors to spiritual darkness and distort our focus on God's truth. The Bible is clear that we should avoid any form of the occult or spiritism, as these are detestable to God.
Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD; because of these same detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the LORD your God. Deuteronomy 18:10-13 WEB.
Instead of ghost stories, let us delve into the living and active word of God, which is the Bible. It is through the Bible that we find spiritual guidance, comfort, and the path to eternal life. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6 WEB.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You, seeking Your guidance and wisdom. Help us to discern what we should and should not engage with, especially when it comes to entertainment. Give us a hunger for Your word, and let scripture be our delight, meditation, and guide for life. Protect us from the dangers of the occult and help us to focus on You and Your truth. Help us to find in Your word and Your will our complete satisfaction.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Let us encourage each other to dive deeper into the Bible, where we find the true stories of God's love, redemption, and guidance for our lives. If there is an interest in ghost stories, let us consider replacing that with a healthy interest in true stories of God's work in the lives of His people both in scripture and in our lives. We should be conscious of the eternal wisdom of the word of God and the temporary enjoyment of ghost stories. We should remember that ghost stories are not to be considered innocent entertainment.
