Psalm 27:10 (NKJV)
When my father and my mother forsake me,
Then the Lord will take care of me.
As a young boy I saw this very scripture come to pass in my life. My dad passed away in 1971 and it was a terrible loss for me. I looked up to my dad as he was our protector, provider, teacher, basically our covering for our every need. Then all of a sudden that security and comfort was snatched away from me. After my dad's death, my mother was going through the early stages of Alzheimer’s and wasn't thinking very clearly. She had the burden of two twin teenage boy's and couldn't deal with that so she threw our clothes out of the house and left us a note, telling us basically we had to fend for ourselves from that day on..
There I was crying and in a desperate situation, not knowing what to do, no where to go and thrown to the streets. I had a little part time job with a grocery store making a dollar and a half an hour and believe me on 12 to 14 hours a week that didn't go far. I had bought an old Chevy station wagon for nearly nothing and was living and sleeping in that thing. I thank God for that car, at least it was a shelter from the elements. It took almost everything I made nearly to keep that old car going.
During this period of time you could collect coke bottles and get a ten cent deposit from them, so that is how I made money to eat on. I would go about daily finding bottles on the road side and collected money for them. There was a Krystal Hamburger joint near where I was staying and you could buy ten Krystal hamburgers for a dollar plus tax. That was what I ate every day for months.I parked my old car in a shopping center parking lot that was lighted at night. That seemed to be a little comfort to me as I slept and everyday I would go to a Kmart store there to cool off when it was so hot. I would use their bath room to bathe and brush my teeth and I did this everyday like clock work.
One day when I went into the store and there was a kind lady who worked at the service desk, she had noticed me coming into the store and going out everyday. She stopped me and said son come here. It really scared me, I thought she was going to call the law on me and I didn't know whether to run or stay. I guess she saw the fear in my eyes and she said don't worry I'm not going to hurt you, so I walked over to her. She said son you don't have a place to stay do you? I said no mam, and began telling her the whole story as to what had happened with me. She got on the phone and called her husband, she talked only a few minutes to him and then turned to me and said son I keep orphan kids at my home and we have a bed open for you if you would like to come stay with us.
I was scared but I told her I would like that. She took me home with her and I met her husband, he was so nice to me. They treated me like I was their own child right from the start. I can remember sitting down to my first meal with them. No more Krystal hamburgers thank God. I had real food again and it was wonderful. I had a place to lay my head and not fear, I could bathe again and I had real soap and tooth paste and towels to dry off with. They laundered my clothes for me. I truly thought I had died and gone to heaven. They kept me there for well over a year and never charged me a dime. I always felt like I was imposing on them but that was just me. All they ever showed me was love. I know they both will be rewarded greatly in heaven for what they had done.
At the time I didn't see it but it was God's loving hand intervening in my behalf. I was raised up believing in God and I prayed every day for a normal life again. My God was attentive and He heard that young boy's prayer and did just that. I didn't write this testimony to gain any sympathy because I would not take anything for the experience now. I learned that I had a heavenly Father who saw it all, and He met that kid's every need. He showed me real love through those sweet people. Just as the scripture had said, When my father and my mother forsake me, Then the Lord will take care of me. I had found my true heavenly Father through this ordeal, hallelujah. Just remember this, we are always in our Heavenly Fathers loving care, He see's it all and no matter what you are going through, your heavenly Father promises that He will take care of you.
