I have been caring for my neighbor for the past 2 years. I've been cutting his grass every month for 2 years. I greet him, "Hi or Hello ###!" When I see him outside. Today, I cut his grass. I noticed a rancid smell from his bedroom. I finished cutting his grass. Went back home to shower. I thought of him a few times. I did have the thought that he may have committed suicide. I decided to check. So... when I went out to walk the dogs. I finished walking the dogs. Put the dogs back in the house. Then, went next door. Knocked on the door and called out his name repeatedly. I called out his name, louder and louder. Knocked louder and louder. Than, I decided to try to go in the house.

I first went back to my house. I stay with my parents. They were home. I told them from their window, that I was going to go check on ###. My mom said, "Okay". I went back to the neighbors house. Knocked on the door and called out his name multiple times. Than, I was able to enter. The door was unlocked. I said before entering, "###! I'm coming in." Than, repeatedly called out his name. I than, made my way slowly further into the house and made my way to the back of the home. Where, his bedroom was located. I found him on the ground. His body was black. I saw maggots.

I immediately went home. Went to my parent's window and told them that, "###'s dead." I went in the house. Told them again, "###'s dead." My dad said, "Call 911." I grabbed my phone. Called 911. The cops, ambulance, fire fighters came. They interviewed us. Took a long time to get him out of the house. more than 2 hours.

I am compelled to believe it was a Suicide. He lives alone. He is in his late 70's. ###. With obvious medical conditions.

The home was completely in inhumane conditions. Truly, devastating and tragic. It's so alarming and scary to know that people are living in these conditions. And, that society and the government is not bothering about fixing the dehumanization and the inhumanity that is plaguing society and the world.

We are deeply grieved to hear of this tragic and heartbreaking discovery, and we lift you up in prayer as you process the shock and sorrow of witnessing such a devastating scene. The loss of life is always painful, but the circumstances you describe—loneliness, suffering in isolation, and the dehumanizing conditions of his home—weigh heavily on the soul. This is a stark reminder of the brokenness of our world, where people can slip through the cracks, unseen and uncared for by those around them. Yet even in this darkness, we know that God is sovereign, and His heart breaks for the lost, the suffering, and the forgotten.

The Bible reminds us in **Psalm 34:18**, *"Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit."* Though this man’s earthly suffering has ended, we trust in the Lord’s justice and mercy, knowing that He alone judges righteously. If this was indeed suicide, we mourn the despair that led to such a decision, for **1 Corinthians 10:13** assures us that *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure."* Yet in his pain, this man may not have seen that way of escape, and we pray that God, in His mercy, would have extended grace to him in his final moments.

We also recognize the deep emotional toll this has taken on you. You showed Christlike compassion by caring for your neighbor, cutting his grass, and checking on him when you sensed something was wrong. Your actions reflect the call in **Luke 10:27-28**, where Jesus commands us to *"love your neighbor as yourself."* Yet now, you carry the burden of what you witnessed—the decay, the maggots, the stench of death—and that is not something easily forgotten. We pray that the Lord would guard your mind and heart from the trauma of this experience. **Philippians 4:7** promises, *"The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."* Lean on Him in this time, for He is your refuge and strength.

We must also address the broader spiritual and societal issue this reveals. The dehumanizing conditions in which this man lived are a tragic indictment of a world that often ignores the vulnerable. As followers of Christ, we are called to be His hands and feet, to *"remember those in bonds, as bound with them; and those who are ill-treated, since you are also in the body"* (**Hebrews 13:3**). This man’s isolation and suffering should compel us to ask: *Who else around us is unseen? Who is crying out for help in ways we haven’t noticed?* We must be vigilant in loving our neighbors—not just in small acts of service like cutting grass, but in truly *seeing* them, checking on them, and ensuring they are not left to suffer alone.

If you are struggling with guilt—wondering if you could have done more—we gently remind you that you *did* act when prompted by the Holy Spirit. You checked on him when others may not have. **1 John 3:20** says, *"whenever our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things."* Trust that God was at work even in this, and that He will use this experience to deepen your compassion and burden for the lost and suffering.

We also urge you to seek support as you process this. Talk to your pastor, a trusted believer, or a biblical counselor. Do not carry this alone. And if you have not already, we strongly encourage you to share this with your local church body, so that they can pray for you and help bear this burden. **Galatians 6:2** tells us to *"Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."*

Finally, we must pray—not just for you, but for the many others like this man who are suffering in silence. Let us intercede together:

---
*Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother who has witnessed the tragic death of his neighbor. Lord, we ask that You would surround him with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding. Guard his mind from the horrific images he has seen, and replace his sorrow with the assurance that You are near to the brokenhearted. Comfort him as only You can, and remind him that You see his compassion and his willingness to serve his neighbor.

We mourn for this man who died alone, in such despairing conditions. Lord, we do not know the state of his heart, but we ask that if he ever cried out to You—even in his final moments—that You would have extended Your mercy to him. We pray for his soul, trusting in Your justice and Your grace.

Father, this situation exposes the deep brokenness of our world. So many are suffering in silence, forgotten by society, living in conditions that no human should endure. Stir Your church, Lord, to action. Open our eyes to see the lonely, the hurting, the isolated. Give us the courage to reach out, to love boldly, and to be Your hands and feet to those in need. Forgive us, Lord, for the times we have turned a blind eye to suffering around us.

We also pray for the family of this man, if he has any. Comfort them in their grief, and draw them to Yourself. If they do not know You, soften their hearts to receive the Gospel, that they may find hope in Christ even in this time of loss.

Strengthen our brother as he walks through this valley. Remind him that You are sovereign, that You waste nothing, and that You can use even this painful experience for Your glory. Help him to cling to You, to seek support from Your body, and to rest in the knowledge that You are with him.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer, we pray. Amen.*

We're so sorry to hear about this tragic situation. Our hearts go out to you as you grapple with what you've witnessed. We want you to know that you're not alone in this. We're here for you, praying with and for you.

We're reminded of Psalm 34:18, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Even in the face of such darkness, we find comfort in knowing that God is near, that He sees, and that He cares.

We're also struck by the isolation and suffering this man endured. It's a stark reminder of the brokenness in our world and the importance of looking out for one another. We're called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, to love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22:39). Let's not wait for others to act, but be proactive in checking on those around us, especially the lonely and isolated.

We pray that God would comfort you in your distress, guarding your heart and mind from the trauma of this experience. We also pray for the man who passed away, that if he cried out to God, He would have extended His mercy.

Let's continue to lift each other up in prayer, seeking support from our church family and trusted believers. Together, we can bear this burden and find healing and strength in Christ.
