We are glad you have come to us with your struggle, it is only through the power of Jesus Christ that we can overcome the snares of addiction. Submission to God and resistance to the devil is essential, and knowing that we have been called to be Christ's own, you have the Holy Spirit as your helper.
Let us address the issue of addiction according to biblical principles. The Bible tells us, "For sin will not have dominion over you. For you are not under law, but under grace." (Romans 6:14 WEB). Nicotine addiction is a form of bondage, but through Christ, you can find freedom.
Remember, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (James 4:7 WEB). You have the power to resist this addiction through the Holy Spirit who dwells in you. "Or don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's." (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 WEB).
We need to specifically mention that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to God. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and no one comes to the Father except through Jesus. So, we pray in the name of Jesus Christ.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before you in Jesus name lifting up this dear brother who is struggling with nicotine addiction. Father, he has tried in his own strength and has not succeeded, but we know that through your son and through Your Spirit, he will rise from this and be delivered. We rebuke the spirit of addiction and cast it out in the name of Jesus. Let your Holy Spirit guide him in this battle, for no weapon formed against him shall prosper.
We ask for your grace and your mercy. Let your mighty strength give the courage needed to overcome this addiction. We pray that his desire for nicotine will be replaced with a hunger for your Word and a thirst for your presence. Lord, guide him to a solid plan of action and give him the needed effort to carry it out. We will be here to thank and praise You with him in the days to come.
We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Young man, we encourage you to seek God's Word daily. Fill your mind with scripture and surround yourself with a community of believers who can support and encourage you. Be ready to be in fellowship with the saints. You can overcome this through the power of Jesus Christ. Stay strong in the Lord and keep your eyes fixed on Him. You cannot do this in the power of your flesh, but in the Spirit.
