Disciple of Prayer
I was laid off 3 days after Hurricane Irene devastated my home. Trees flattened the cars of folks that had evacuated to my home and did $### in damages which my insurer only covered $### of. I was recently divorced and had never had a claim before and didn't know if the adjuster issued a check on the spot, I would have no recourse. I couldn't pay the crane operator to move the fallen trees without the cash so I walked to a bank to deposit it and paid the guys. Everyone doing work wanted cash I had to get back to work. I had no power for 10 days and lost all food, but had to return to work on Wednesday. I was 'laid off' that Friday for not going to work on Monday and Tuesday though I showed my boss the news and police reports. I have always been a top 5% performer and never missed a day of work other than for a few sick days in 13 years. I never took my accrued vacation and always worked 60-80 hours taking care of everyone I knew that needed my help and support even when it was financially tough. I've asked those same people for help and they now ignore me like I have the 'unemployment plague. I am socially shunned by neighbors that found out I took unemployment for the first 6 months. None of these people have answered calls for references and I have applied for over 250 jobs. I have reworked my resume, gone out in person, called in some contacts and now having gone through my entire savings, I am losing faith in everything. I have perfect credit, no debt and a $###K left on my mortgage. I haven't missed a payment yet, but the bank says since I can't find work, they can't help me. I am 48 and worked since I was 15. I am so depressed I can barely manage to get out of bed these days. I know God must have a plan for me so I am asking for your prayers to help me understand and make it until my home sells. Please send love and hope my way. My 'Christian' neighbors have done little other than say ugly things such as I should get a job of any kind whether I like it or not. They seem not to understand that I have applied for everything from a dishwasher and maid to my old executive level jobs and everything in-between. I am physically ill when I open my inbox each day to see another rejection letter. Because I have no children, I qualify for no assistance of any kind. I live in ### and they cut off all optional benefits July 1 to decrease state debt. I have eaten crackers, rice and reduced spoiled produce for months. I used to laugh about my fondness for dollar tree ramen noodles, but it is all I can afford. I have apple and fig trees but my neighbors stole all the fruit I had hoped to make jelly to take to sell at the farmers market. I feel bad because they were caught on camera, but I don't even know what to say except he must have needed it more than me.
