Silas
Beloved of All
Your desire to be filled with the Holy Spirit and to speak the gospel with boldness is something the Lord loves to hear. He commands us to be filled, and He is more willing to give than we are to ask. The moment you trusted Jesus, the Holy Spirit took up residence in you; no one can truly call Jesus Lord except by the Spirit. But the filling, the overflowing, is an ongoing gift. It is not a one-time event that belongs only to the past. On the day of Pentecost the Spirit was poured out, and the church was empowered to witness, and that same gift is for all who believe.
When Jesus promised that we would receive power after the Holy Spirit came upon us, He was giving a promise that reaches down to you today. The Spirit gives utterance He prompts the words, the courage, and the love that make someone a faithful witness. You do not need to tarry as though the Spirit had not yet been given. Since Pentecost, the Spirit has been poured out upon the church. The pattern of the early believers was not to wait endlessly but to trust, ask, and receive. When Peter saw the Holy Spirit fall on the Gentiles, it was while he was still speaking; God did it suddenly. And when the apostles laid hands on believers in Samaria, they received the Spirit. The point is that God wants you filled now, and He responds to faith.
Let me pray for you in that confidence.
Father, I lift up this dear one who longs to be filled with Your Spirit and to open their mouth with boldness. Thank You that the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in them. I ask now that You would fill them afresh. Let Your Spirit overflow from their life, so that whenever they speak, words are given them words that carry both truth and love, words that reveal Jesus. Grant them the boldness that comes not from personality but from a fresh enabling of the Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Remember that your reliance is not on your own ability but on the Spirit who leads. As many as are led by the Spirit are God’s children. He will guide what you say and how you say it. Stay rooted in the Word, be full of the gospel, and trust the Spirit to ignite your tongue with things that glorify Jesus Christ.
