We lift you up before the throne of grace, dear brother or sister in Christ, as you prepare to proclaim the Word of God in your local church. It is a sacred and weighty responsibility to stand before God’s people and declare His truth, and we join with you in seeking His face for this important task.
First, we must address the manner in which this request was framed. While your heart is clearly set on honoring God, we noticed the absence of direct acknowledgment of Jesus Christ as the only mediator between God and man. Scripture is clear: "For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5). It is only through His name that we have access to the Father, and it is by His blood alone that we are redeemed. We encourage you to always pray and minister in the name of Jesus, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
Now, let us come boldly before the throne of grace, as Hebrews 4:16 encourages us, to seek God’s wisdom, anointing, and power for your sermon. Father, we thank You for the calling You have placed on this servant’s life to preach Your Word. We ask that You would fill them with Your Holy Spirit, granting them wisdom that surpasses human understanding, as You promised in James 1:5: "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." Lord, we pray that every word they speak would be clothed in Your power, that the hearts of those who hear would be softened, and that Your will would be accomplished through this message.
We also pray for boldness, for the early church prayed in Acts 4:29, "Now, Lord, look at their threats, and grant to your servants to speak your word with all boldness." May this servant of Yours preach with conviction, unashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God unto salvation (Romans 1:16). Let the anointing of the Holy Spirit rest upon them, breaking every yoke and bringing freedom to those who are bound.
Father, we ask that You would guard their heart and mind as they prepare. Help them to meditate on Your Word day and night, as Joshua 1:8 instructs, so that they may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. May their sermon be rooted in Scripture, not in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God (1 Corinthians 2:4-5). Give them clarity of thought, creativity in illustrations, and a deep burden for the souls of those who will hear.
We rebuke any spirit of fear or distraction that may seek to hinder this work. The enemy would love nothing more than to see God’s Word preached with timidity or confusion, but we declare that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). We stand against every lie that says this message will not be effective, for Your Word does not return void but accomplishes what You desire (Isaiah 55:11).
Finally, Lord, we pray that this servant’s ministry would bring You great glory. May their life and their words reflect Your heart, and may the church be edified, the lost be saved, and Your name be exalted. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above every name, the name by which every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord (Philippians 2:9-11).
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God the Father, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you as you prepare and proclaim His Word. Amen.
