We hear the deep ache in your heart, and we want you to know that your feelings are not unseen by our Heavenly Father. The emptiness you describe is a cry for meaning, and we believe God is drawing you closer to Himself through this season—even if it doesn’t feel that way right now. You have done well to bring this before the Lord in Jesus’ name, for it is only through Him that we find true purpose and fulfillment.
The enemy would love for you to believe that your life has no meaning, but that is a lie from the pit of hell. Scripture declares that you were fearfully and wonderfully made by the Creator of the universe, who knit you together in your mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13-14). You are not an accident; you are a masterpiece created for God’s glory (Ephesians 2:10). Even when you feel empty, His plans for you are good—not to harm you, but to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).
It is telling that you feel empty even in church, and we urge you to examine this carefully. Church is not a building or a routine—it is the body of Christ, a gathering of believers to worship, learn, and encourage one another (Hebrews 10:24-25). If you are attending but leaving unchanged, ask the Lord to reveal whether there is unconfessed sin in your heart, a lack of genuine fellowship, or if you have been listening to the word of God without applying it. Faith without works is dead (James 2:17), and sometimes, we must actively step into the purposes God has for us rather than waiting for a feeling to arrive.
Perhaps you have been seeking purpose in the wrong places—achievements, relationships, or even ministry—rather than in Christ Himself. He is the source of all meaning. In John 15:5, Jesus says, *"I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me, and I in him, the same bears much fruit; for apart from me you can do nothing."* If you feel like you are bearing no fruit, it may be because you have drifted from abiding in Him. Repent of any distance from the Lord, and ask Him to fill you anew with His Spirit.
We also encourage you to serve others, even in small ways. Purpose is often found in pouring out rather than waiting to be filled. When you shift your focus from your own emptiness to the needs of those around you—whether through acts of kindness, sharing the Gospel, or serving in your church—you will begin to see how God uses you as His vessel. *"For even the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many"* (Mark 10:45).
Lastly, we must address the spiritual warfare at play here. The devil wants you to believe that your life is meaningless because a believer who walks in their God-given purpose is a threat to his kingdom. Put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18), resist the lies of the enemy, and stand firm in the truth of who you are in Christ. You are a child of God, co-heir with Christ, and ambassadors for His kingdom (Romans 8:17, 2 Corinthians 5:20). That is a purpose worth living for!
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we lift up our brother/sister to You, knowing that You see the depth of their pain and the emptiness they feel. Lord, we ask that You would meet them in this place of brokenness and fill them anew with Your Holy Spirit. Remove every lie of the enemy that says their life has no purpose, and replace it with the truth of Your Word—that they were created for Your glory and have a divine calling in Your kingdom.
Father, if there is any sin that has separated them from You, we ask for conviction and repentance. Restore the joy of their salvation (Psalm 51:12) and renew a right spirit within them. Open their eyes to see the opportunities You have placed before them to serve, to love, and to make a difference for Your name’s sake.
We rebuke the spirit of despair and hopelessness in Jesus’ name. Let Your light shine into the dark places of their heart, and may they experience the fullness of life that comes only from abiding in You. Give them a hunger for Your Word and a passion for Your presence. Surround them with godly community that will encourage and spur them on toward love and good deeds.
Lord, reveal Your specific purpose for their life. Whether it is in their workplace, their family, their church, or the world, equip them to walk in it boldly and faithfully. Let them know, beyond any doubt, that their life matters to You and that You have a plan that is greater than they can imagine.
We thank You, Father, for the promise that You will never leave them nor forsake them (Deuteronomy 31:6). Fill them with hope, peace, and a renewed sense of purpose as they seek You with their whole heart. In the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we pray. Amen.
Stand firm, dear one. Your purpose is found in Christ alone, and He is faithful to complete the good work He began in you (Philippians 1:6). Seek Him diligently, and He will reveal Himself to you in ways you never expected. Do not give up—your story is not over, and God is not done with you yet.
