Hello. I'm really sorry to send this because I get you have so many people with way more serious issues but because I know our Jesus cares about any problem we may face that's why I'm making this prayer request. So I'm a little desperate because I know my best friend loves me and I love him so much but he's afraid of being vulnerable and showing his emotions and getting too close to people so when he started connecting with me in an unusually short amount of time he started pretending that he doesn't care and he stopped texting me. I know God hears us and I'm sure he responds to prayer so I'm only asking for him to soften up my friend and show him that I'm his safe space and he doesn't have to hide from me.. I really wish I can get his real self again you know? Thank you so much and our amazing God bless you all..

We are so grateful you shared this with us and we want you to know that no concern is ever too small for our God to care about. We understand that feeling of thinking others have more serious problems, but Scripture assures us that He cares deeply for each of us personally. As it is written, casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 and also In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. Your desire to bring this friendship before the Lord is beautiful and right, because He hears us when we pray in the name of Jesus.

We hear your heart for your best friend and your longing to be a safe space for him. God created us for deep and faithful friendship, and we are told A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17. At the same time we know that fear can cause a person to pull away, even when love is there. Scripture says For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7. When someone is afraid of being vulnerable, it is often because of past hurt or a fear of rejection, and only God can truly heal that fear and teach us how to love well. We also remember that Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18 and that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1. Ultimately the Lord Himself must be each person's safest place, even more than any friend can be.

We want to gently encourage you as you walk through this. We pray you can show Christlike love that is patient, kind, and without pressure, while also respecting his boundaries and giving him space if he needs it. Trying to force closeness or to make him respond on our timeline can often push a fearful heart further away. Instead we can continue to pray, to speak with grace when you do communicate, and to trust the Lord with the outcome. If your love for him holds romantic feelings, we want to encourage you in biblical truth. We believe that romantic love is designed by God to lead toward marriage between a man and a woman as a lifelong commitment, and that any courtship should be with the goal of godly marriage to another believer in Christ, marked by purity. Sex before or outside of marriage is fornication and not God's will for us, and romantic same sex relationships are also outside of God's design for marriage. If this is a godly friendship, or if the Lord should lead it toward courtship and marriage in His time, we pray it would be built on purity, honesty, and a shared faith in Jesus. In either case, we encourage you not to make this friendship an idol in your heart, but to keep your deepest trust and identity in Christ.

We join together with you in prayer now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You together and lift up this dear one and her best friend to You. Lord, You see the love and care she has for him and the pain of feeling distance when she longs for closeness. We ask that You would pour Your peace that surpasses all understanding over her heart and guard her thoughts in Christ Jesus. Help her to cast every worry on You and to rest in Your perfect care. For her friend, we ask that You would gently soften his heart, heal any fear of vulnerability, and free him from a spirit of fear. Show him Your perfect love that casts out fear and teach him that he is safe in Your hands. If it is Your will, show him that he can trust this friendship and help them to communicate with honesty, grace, and understanding. Above all, Lord, be his refuge and his safe space, and be hers as well. Lead both of them closer to You, and guide this friendship according to Your perfect will, whether as a faithful friendship or, if You so lead a man and a woman together, toward a godly marriage that honors You. Help them to walk in purity, wisdom, and self-control, and to seek You first. We ask all of this in the precious name of Jesus, our only Savior and our access to the Father, amen.

We encourage you to keep praying, to keep entrusting both yourself and your friend to the Lord, and to continue to be a faithful, prayerful friend while also guarding your own heart with wisdom. The Lord is at work even in the waiting, and He will give you His peace and direction as you seek Him.

We were glad you wrote, and please don't apologize for bringing this. If it's weighing on your heart, it matters to God and it matters to us. We hear how much you care for your friend and how confusing it is when someone you felt close to suddenly pulls back and goes quiet.

What you described makes a lot of sense. When closeness happens very quickly, some people feel exposed and get scared, so they create distance even when they do care. It doesn't mean you did something wrong, and it doesn't mean your friendship wasn't real. Real intimacy and trust usually build slowly, as people learn over time that it is safe to share more of themselves and be heard with kindness.

It is painful to wait while someone sorts that out, so we would encourage you to be gentle with both of you. Rather than sending many messages to try to pull him back, you might consider one simple, warm note with no pressure, something that says you value the friendship and you are here when he wants to talk, and then give him space to respond in his own time. Keep staying rooted in your own friendships and in worship and community where you can be encouraged too, while you continue to pray for him.

Father in Jesus' name we lift this friendship to You. We ask for peace for our friend who is carrying this disappointment, for wisdom to know how to love well without pressing, and for Your care over her friend wherever he is right now. Help both of them to grow in knowing what it means to be known and safe in You, and give her comfort and steadiness in the waiting. Amen.

I feel like this a lot, like my problems aren't a lot compared to other people. There are others struggling with this as well.

I am praying for this in Jesus name, amen!

Your burden has been laid before us and we have carried it to the throne of grace with you, thanking you for the confidence you have shown in asking for prayer. It is true that our God cares for all the sorrows of His people, even those which seem small in the eyes of others, and yet we must remember that His greatest care is for our reconciliation to Himself.

He is the God of Peace and He has, on His part, prepared everything that is necessary for a perfect reconciliation through His Son. The word of reconciliation is not that we must find a way to make ourselves accepted, but that God has already supplied all that is needed for friendship between God and man to be firm and lasting through the blood of Jesus Christ. Before we seek any other friendship to be made whole, we must first be at peace with God, and that peace comes only by receiving the reconciliation which is by faith in Christ, believing the truth of the Gospel and resting upon His atoning work. When we have received that reconciliation, we joy in God, and we can speak from experience of the peace and joy which it brings.

You speak tenderly of your friend and of your desire to be a safe space for him. Who can prove his friendship as Jesus proved it by laying down His life for those He calls His friends. There is a mutual friendship between Christ and the believer, and it is kept alive by communion, by revealing Himself to His people and by His people telling out their hearts to Jesus. Learn from that holy friendship what earthly friendship should be. Persons can hardly maintain friendship if they only see each other now and then, if there is no communion. Yet true friendship is also reciprocal and it is marked by obedience. If we profess friendship with Christ and do not do what He commands, our profession is vain. Obedience is an essential of true friendship to Christ.

So we will pray for you and for your friend, not that God would simply grant the closeness you desire in the way you desire it, but that the Holy Spirit would work at once to draw you both into a deeper friendship with Christ first, and then to make your friendship, whatever its form, to be pure, honest and according to His will. We will pray that if there is fear and a hiding of the heart, the Lord would soften what needs softening, not by our persuasion but by His gentle power, and that He would give you both wisdom to walk in holiness. For we know that intimacy and vulnerability belong within bounds that God has set for our good, and that outside the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, we are called to love one another with a chaste and brotherly affection that seeks the other's holiness above our own comfort.

Do not build your rest upon a wall daubed with untempered mortar, which is to say, upon any hope that another person can give you the rest that only Christ can give. There are broad walls of salvation, and they are for rest and for communion. On those walls the banner of love waves and the soul finds fellowship with Him who loved us and gave Himself for us. Dwell there first. Tell out your heart to Jesus in this disappointment and let Him be your confidant.

And continue in prayer as one who keeps the battering ram at work. The walls that seem so firm, like those ancient walls that could not be stirred, will at last quiver and give way if prayer is kept up blow after blow, stroke after stroke, according to the will of God. Yet remember that in order to reconciliation it is not enough that one party should be forgiving, the other must yield too. You cannot compel another heart to open. You can love, you can be faithful, you can be truthful, and you can leave the work of softening to the Lord.

Our prayer for you is this, that our gracious God would give you peace in waiting upon Him, that He would guard your heart from making an idol of this friendship, that He would teach you to love your friend with a Christlike love that desires his good and his walk with God above all, that He would work in your friend to cast his cares upon Christ and to walk in truth, and that He would make both of you to know more fully the friendship of Jesus, who sticks closer than a brother and who laid down His life for His friends. May the Lord do that which is most for His glory and for your lasting joy, and may you find your safe space first in Him.

We commit you to His keeping and remain in prayer with you.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
