I doomscroll on YouTube and look at Woman lustfully when I do it

Humble Servant of All
I go on YouTube and I doomscroll then I look at woman lustfully when I see a woman on there. And then I get the urge to watch the website and look at more images

We thank you for your honesty in sharing this struggle, for bringing what is done in secret into the light, and we want to walk with you toward freedom in Christ. We need to speak plainly with you because what you describe is sin that must be repented of and forsaken. To look at a woman lustfully is not a small thing, and the urge to go further to seek out more images is the flesh seeking to draw you deeper into sexual immorality.

Jesus taught us in Matthew 5:28 that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. This shows us that lust is adultery in the heart before God. We are also commanded in 1 Corinthians 6:18 to flee sexual immorality, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. And again in 2 Timothy 2:22 we are told to flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. The doomscrolling itself reveals a lack of self control and stewardship of time and mind, and it opens a door for the enemy. We are to be transformed by the renewing of our mind and not be conformed to this world as Romans 12:2 teaches, and to make a covenant with our eyes as Job said in Job 31:1, I made a covenant with my eyes, how then should I look lustfully at a young woman.

We also notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to God and can find forgiveness and victory. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 declares there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Without faith in Jesus and calling upon His name, our prayers are not heard and our sins are not forgiven. If you have not yet repented and believed on the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, we urge you to do so today, confessing your sin, turning from it, and trusting that He died for you and rose again. 1 John 1:9 promises if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We want to encourage you toward practical repentance. This means not making provision for the flesh. Remove easy access to temptation, set strict limits or remove the YouTube app from your phone, install filtering and accountability software, and invite a mature Christian brother to hold you accountable and to ask you hard questions weekly. Redeem the time as Ephesians 5:15-16 says, and when the urge comes, flee physically, pray immediately, and replace the habit with Scripture. Memorize Psalm 101:3, I will set no vile thing before my eyes, and Psalm 119:37, Turn my eyes away from looking at worthless things. Revive me in your ways. Bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ as 2 Corinthians 10:5 teaches. God designed sexual desire to be fulfilled only within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, and any sexual activity or lust outside of that marriage is fornication or adultery and is contrary to His will. Pursuing purity now prepares you to honor a future wife or to honor God in singleness with a clean conscience.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, and we lift up this dear one who is battling lust and compulsive scrolling. We confess this sin before You and ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus. Lord, create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him. Give him strength to make a covenant with his eyes and to turn his eyes from worthless things. Help him to flee sexual immorality and to walk by the Spirit so he will not fulfill the lust of the flesh as Galatians 5:16 promises. Break the power of this habit of doomscrolling, redeem his time, fill his mind with Your Word, and give him godly sorrow that leads to repentance and self control that comes from Your Spirit. Surround him with godly accountability and restore to him the joy of Your salvation. Help him to seek You first and to trust that You are faithful to provide a way of escape from every temptation. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to not be discouraged by failure but to keep repenting quickly and drawing near to God. James 4:7 says be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you. God sees your struggle and He is able to make you stand and to give you victory as you abide in Christ daily through prayer, the Word, and fellowship with believers who will help you walk in purity.

We appreciate you being so straightforward about what is happening. It takes courage to name the pattern you are stuck in, and we are grateful you brought it to us for prayer.

What you describe makes sense. Endless scrolling when you are tired or bored can leave you more open to temptation, and one look can quickly spark the urge for more. Recognizing that chain from doomscrolling to lustful looking to wanting to go further is an important insight, it shows you are paying attention to how this starts.

One small, practical step that helps many men is to change the cue before the urge builds. You might try removing YouTube from your phone for a season or setting a firm time and place for when you will not open it at all, like late at night or when you are alone, and putting the phone in another room. Pairing that with one trusted Christian brother or mentor who can check in with you weekly can give you real accountability in the moment, not just after.

We are praying for you and we believe God honors an honest, willing heart that wants to walk differently.

Father, we lift our brother to You. You see his desire to honor You and the pull he feels when he scrolls. Give him wisdom to set helpful boundaries, strength to turn away quickly, and grace when he stumbles. Fill him with Your presence and peace and guide his steps day by day. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your open confession before God is a mercy, for it shows that conscience is not yet seared and the Spirit is still striving with you. Do not despise this uneasiness, but heed it, for it is a call to careful self watching.

You describe a true pedigree of sin, as the apostle James declares it. Lust, when it has conceived, brings forth sin, and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death. The glance that seems so small, the lingering look upon a woman with lust in the heart, is not a trifle. What a man is, the man before long does, and the heart that is not kept unspotted will soon show its spot in the life. Our Lord has taught us that to look upon a woman to lust after her is to commit adultery already in the heart, and that law reveals how far purity must go. Purity and charity are the two great garments of Christianity, and you cannot wear one and cast off the other. To keep himself unspotted from the world is the work set before every believer.

You also describe how one temptation makes way for another. The idle hour given to doomscrolling becomes the trial, and Satan makes it a temptation. The same providence may be a trial from God and a temptation from Satan, but you must not suppose that therefore you are compelled to fall. The prayer our Saviour taught us is, Lead us not into temptation, and that prayer breathes a humble self distrust which shrinks from the conflict because it knows its own weakness. There is courage there, for the soul looks temptation in the face and dreads only the evil it may work within.

Hear this truth plainly. The man who prays, Lead us not into temptation, and then goes into it, is a liar before God. You need not ask the Lord not to lead you where you have led yourself. If YouTube is to you a pinnacle of temptation, you must not go to the pinnacle and then pray not to be cast down. Never go into temptation. Make no provision for the flesh. If the phone or the screen is the snare, put it out of reach in the idle hours, set strict bounds, bring your browsing into the light with a faithful brother or pastor who will ask you how you have kept your vow, and fill the vacant hour with better work.

For without Christ you can do nothing. Not some great work only, but no little act of purity, no victory over a wandering eye, can be done apart from Him. Every grain of self reliance is poison. Self loathing for what sin has made of us, and self distrust for the future, are necessary graces. You will never trust yourself again when you have seen what your heart can do when left alone. That is why the pardoned sinner prays without ceasing, Lead us not into temptation, and Deliver us from evil.

Therefore examine yourself honestly before the great heart searcher who tries the reins. Set apart season for self examination, not with mock humility that loves to speak ill of itself before men, but with true self knowledge before God. Ask, am I resting in Christ alone for salvation, or am I hoping that my sorrow will itself atone. Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, His blood and righteousness, and there is no other name. Ask also, am I willing to be made pure, even if it costs me the pleasure of the eye and the ease of the idle hour.

Then act upon what you pray. Flee youthful lusts. Turn from the image the moment it appears, and cry to God in that moment. Replace the doomscrolling with profitable labour. Visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, open the Book, pray, labour with your hands, walk among the brethren, for an occupied heart and an occupied hand give temptation less room. Keep your covenant with your eyes as Job did, and remember that marriage is the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that all sexual desire belongs within that covenant alone. Whatever lies outside it, whether in thought, image, or act, is sin to be repented of, not indulged.

There is forgiveness with Him that He may be feared. Look to Christ crucified, see hands and feet given to the rough iron and His whole self to mockery and scorn for sinners, and hear His shrill cry, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me. He bore the curse that lust and all sin deserved, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish. Confess your sin to Him without excuse, trust His atoning blood to cleanse you from all sin, and ask Him for a new heart that loves purity because it loves Him.

I will pray for you, that the Lord will give you a deep hatred of this sin, a watchful heart, a clean eye, and a life kept unspotted from the world, and that you may prove the power of His grace to keep you and to restore you when you fall, till you stand complete in Him.

May the Lord deliver you from evil, and keep you by His power through faith unto holiness.

For no more "interference" when I do things, meaning, I plan to take care of something, at just that time something or someone "pops up" to thwart me from what I wanted to or needed to do. No more obstacles!!
