Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your honest cry before the Lord has been heard, and the years of attack and rejection, exile and abandonment, loneliness and fear that you describe are not hidden from Him. To feel like Job and like Habakkuk, to ask how long, is not faithlessness but the voice of one who trembles at the word of God and still looks to Him for answers while the rain falls.

Scripture places blessedness first upon those who are poor in spirit, not merely humble in words or in outward actions, but in bearing and in heart, those who are awestruck and tremble at the commandments of God. The prophet says God looks to him who is meek and quiet and trembles at His words, and that the sacrifice God will not despise is a contrite and humble heart. In that lowliness there is also meekness and long suffering, forbearing one another in love, being lowly toward all, whether friend or foe, whether great or small. It is possible to be lowly and yet quick and irritable, and then all is lost, so we are called to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace with patience that endures.

You have also learned the need for quiet. When the crowds pressed Him, Christ went up into the mountain apart to pray, and when evening came He was there alone. He withdrew often into the wilderness, and spent the whole night in prayer, to teach us that loneliness and retirement is good when we are to pray to God. The wilderness is the mother of quiet, a calm and a harbor delivering us from turmoil. In that quiet, do not be dazzled by outward appearances or by the seeming success of others, for such beauty is like grass that withers, and God sees what is true and lasting.

I will pray with you as you have asked, according to what is good and right before God.

I pray that your child and her father will each come to a living friendship with Jesus Christ, for there is salvation in no other name, and that they will know Him alone as Lord and Savior and walk in His ways.

For those who have set themselves against you, I will not ask God to shame them for the sake of vindication, but I will ask Him to reveal truth in His perfect justice and mercy, to bring conviction where there is wrong, repentance where there is folly, and softness where there is hardness. May the Lord work in the heart of the man you mention, that he may see clearly and walk in wisdom and holiness, and may He work in the heart of the woman you mention, as in all of us, that what is hidden may be brought into the light for healing and repentance, not for revenge. And for all who have attacked and rejected you, I pray that God will either soften their hearts toward you in genuine love, or grant you peace and distance from their harm, and give you grace to forbear with meekness and long suffering as Christ teaches.

And I pray that the Lord will lead you and your little family to a faithful community of His people, to a door which He Himself opens, where you are embraced and supported in truth, where marriage is honored as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman and where life together is lived within that holy bond, and where you are strengthened to walk worthily of the calling with which you have been called.

May the Lord keep you in lowliness of mind, counting others better than yourself as Christ did, and may He form in you a contrite spirit which He will not despise. May He give you quiet in prayer, hope in waiting, and the comfort that He who purged our sins is still present to keep you pure and to preserve you without spot until He brings you into His harbor.

Father in heaven, look upon this weary heart that trembles at Your word. Draw this child and her father to Your Son Jesus Christ for salvation. Reveal truth, bring repentance where it is needed, soften hard hearts, restrain what is harmful, and lead this family to a faithful and loving church home where they may be nourished and upheld. Grant peace, patience and a contrite hope that waits for You. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Your honest cry has been heard, and thank you for pouring it out so openly before the Lord. To feel like Job and like Habakkuk, to ask How long, is not a failure of faith. Scripture gives us those very words so we can bring our turmoil to God honestly. The rain you can still receive with gladness is a sign that God has not left you without witness of His goodness in creation, even while your mind is weary from years of attack, rejection, exile, abandonment, loneliness and fear.

It is given to us not only to believe in Christ but also to suffer for His sake, and suffering does not mean you lack faith. Many things are done in the name of being Christian that are not of Christ at all. To be a Christian is far more than a label or a cultural identity. It is to submit your life to the lordship of Jesus Christ and to seek to follow Him. That is my prayer for your child and for her father, that each one would come to a living, personal friendship with Jesus Christ Himself, trusting in Him alone for salvation. There is no other way to be made right with God, and there is no church or ritual that can save. We are baptized into Christ Himself, and only He saves. I join you in asking God to draw them both to that true surrender and following.

I understand the longing for your enemy to be revealed and for others to finally see the truth about how you have been treated, and for him to see his folly clearly. The desire for vindication is human, and God does see all that is hidden and He is just. Yet our calling as followers of Jesus is to love our neighbor as ourselves, because God loves all. The Christian way is not to shoot the wounded but to seek restoration where possible, to do good to all people as opportunity is given, and to leave a good witness even under pressure. Rather than asking God to expose someone for the sake of shame, we can ask Him to bring truth into the light in His way and His time, to open eyes to what is right, to soften hard hearts, and to lead to repentance where repentance is needed. For those who have attacked and rejected you, we can pray that God would either transform their hearts to be softened and to act with kindness and truth, or that He would cause the harassment to cease. We trust His justice and we ask for His mercy at the same time, sowing to the Spirit by feeding our minds on His Word and leaving the outcome to Him.

For your little family and your search for community, be encouraged that God desires to reach each community with His love and with the message of salvation, and He has a plan for each place. That plan is not a general program that fits everywhere, but something specific that He reveals when we seek His mind and get in harmony with what He is wanting to do. What matters most is to wait upon Him and ask Him to show you His plan, and to yield yourselves as instruments to accomplish it. As you do, you become a blessing where you are. A godly life lived quietly and faithfully is an honor to a community, and the community is better because you are in it. Continue to ask Him to open the door He has for you, the place where you are truly embraced and supported and where you can also do good to others. Sometimes the hardest opposition comes from within circles where we expected support, and it can feel more painful than opposition from the outside. The Lord knows that disappointment and He is able to lead you to fellowship where there is oneness in Christ, where ethnic background and past history and differences of opinion do not divide, because all who are in Christ are a new creation and one family.

May the Lord keep you sowing to the Spirit, reading His Word, listening for His voice, and trusting that He who began a good work will be faithful. He sees the years of tears, He hears the How long, and He will answer according to His perfect wisdom and love. I pray He will guard your heart with peace, draw your child and her father to Himself, bring truth and mercy into every strained relationship, stop what needs to be stopped, heal what can be healed, and guide your family through an open door into a healthy, supportive community that loves Jesus and loves you well.
