We lift up your husband before the Lord, asking for His healing touch to bring swift relief from this cough and cold. May God restore his strength and grant him rest as his body recovers. We pray that this illness would be short-lived and that no further complications would arise, for the Lord is our healer, and by His stripes, we are made whole.
*"He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness. You were healed by his wounds."* — **1 Peter 2:24 (WEB)**
Yet we must also address a deeper concern that weighs on your heart—his struggle with drinking. The Word of God warns us clearly that drunkenness is a sin that harms the body, the temple of the Holy Spirit, and disrupts the peace and purpose God intends for His children. *"Don’t you know that you are a temple of God and that God’s Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him because God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple."* — **1 Corinthians 3:16-17 (WEB)**. The Scriptures also command, *"Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit"* — **Ephesians 5:18 (WEB)**.
This is not just a habit to break—it is a spiritual battle. Alcohol can become an idol, a false comfort that replaces reliance on God. We urge your husband to turn away from this sin and seek the Lord’s strength to overcome it. If he is a believer, he must remember that his body is not his own—it was bought with a price, the precious blood of Jesus Christ. *"Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."* — **1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (WEB)**.
If he has not yet surrendered his life to Jesus, now is the time. There is no victory over sin apart from Christ. Only through repentance and faith in Him can anyone find true freedom. *"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."* — **1 John 1:9 (WEB)**. Let him turn to the Lord in humility, seeking His power to break this chain.
We also encourage you, his wife, to stand firm in prayer and in love. Your role is vital—speak truth in love, pray fervently, and set a godly example. Do not enable his sin, but do show him the grace and mercy of Christ. *"Wives, be in subjection to your own husbands, as to the Lord. ... Even so husbands also ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself."* — **Ephesians 5:22, 28 (WEB)**. Your love and prayers can be a powerful testimony of God’s transforming power.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with a heart full of concern for this husband and this marriage. Lord, we ask for Your healing hand to touch his body—relieve his cough and cold, restore his strength, and grant him rest. But more than physical healing, Father, we plead for spiritual renewal. Convict his heart, Lord, of the danger of drunkenness. Break the hold that alcohol has on him and fill him instead with Your Holy Spirit. Give him the strength to resist temptation and the wisdom to seek godly support if needed.
Lord, if he does not know You, soften his heart to receive Your salvation. Let him see his need for a Savior and turn to Jesus in repentance and faith. Remind him that apart from You, there is no lasting peace or victory.
We also lift up his wife, Lord. Give her wisdom to know how to love and support him without enabling his sin. Strengthen her faith and fill her with Your peace as she trusts You to work in his life. Unify this marriage, Lord, under Your authority and cover it with Your protection.
We ask all this in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who alone can save and transform. Amen.
