Proverbs 20:22:
Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.

Commentary on this verse:
While we live in the world, we must expect to have injuries done us, affronts given, and much trouble wrongfully created to us. But we must not revenge ourselves; no, not so much as design or think of any such thing. We must not say, no, not in our hearts, I will return evil for evil; but must wait on the Lord, to whom it belongs to execute vengeance, and to deliver His people from all their enemies. We must refer ourselves to Him, and leave it to Him to plead our cause, or reckon with those that do us wrong, in such a way and manner as He shall think fit, and in His own due time.

When we face such trials, let us remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:44, "But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you," We must not harbor thoughts of revenge, but instead, love, bless, and pray for those who wrong us.

Now, let us pray through Proverbs 20:27, "The spirit of man is Yahweh’s lamp, searching all his innermost parts."

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, acknowledging that Your Holy Spirit indwells the inner sanctuary of our hearts. We invite You, Lord, to search us, know us, and try our hearts. Identify and correct any faults You find within us. Shine Your light into the darkest corners of our souls, and reveal any unconfessed sin, root of bitterness, or hidden grudge. May our lives be a lamp shining forth the life and light of Christ within us. Help us, Lord, to walk in Your ways, to love as You love, and to forgive as You forgive. We ask for the word 'Christ' to be in many prayers and it is then we know our prayers have the likelihood of being answered. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
