Key Passage
Then Jesus told the people another story: "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman mixes into a big bowl of flour to make bread. The yeast makes all the dough (bread) rise."
— Matthew 13:33 ERV (Read Full Text)
Key Thought
Once again, Jesus' point is that despite the small beginnings and insignificant size of his Kingdom at it's beginning, it will spread pervasively until it eventually makes a direct impact on everyone! Jesus purposely starts his Kingdom small. There is no press corps nor entourage. Jesus uses no spin doctor. He doesn't want folks going around making wild claims about him. He is careful to reveal the full truth of the Kingdom only to his disciples. But over time his Kingdom will have great power and will impact many lives. Its influence will permeate throughout the world. While his disciples must believe this in faith, they will experience it in mission!
Prayer
Almighty Father, please give me eyes to see and ears to hear what you are doing in the world by influencing it through your Kingdom family. Help my influence to be a blessing to others who are searching for you and your Kingdom. I trust that while many in my time and culture do not fully acknowledge you as Sovereign in their lives, one day they will. Help me be a part of welcoming that day. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Related Scriptures
So Jesus came to them and said, "All authority (power) in heaven and on earth is given to me. So go and make followers of all people in the world. Baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach those people to obey everything that I have told you. You can be sure that I will be with you always. I will continue with you until the end of the world."
— Matthew 28:18-20
Christ obeyed God, so God raised Christ to the most important place. God made the name of Christ greater than every other name. God did this because he wants every person to bow for the name of Jesus. Every person in heaven, on the earth, and under the earth will bow. Every person will confess (say), "Jesus Christ is Lord (Master)." When they say this, it will bring glory to God the Father.
— Philippians 2:9-11
You have faith in Christ and love God's people because of the hope you have. You know that the things you hope for are saved for you in heaven. You learned about this hope when you heard the true teaching, the Good News that was told to you. Everywhere in the world that Good News is bringing blessings and growing. This same thing has happened with you since the time you heard that Good News and understood the truth about the grace (kindness) of God.
