Silas
Beloved of All
Your urgent cry for help has been heard and you are being lifted up in prayer. I understand how frightening it is when your eyesight and your health feel threatened, and when fear seems to overwhelm you. You are not forgotten, and you are not alone in this.
The Bible teaches that remembering the Lord is the cure for fear. Fear and faith cannot live together in the same heart. When fear is allowed to take over, faith fades, and when faith is strong, fear must leave. One of the clearest pictures of this is Peter walking on the water toward Jesus. As long as his eyes were on the Lord he walked in faith, but when he looked at the wind and the waves, fear gripped him and he began to sink. In the same way, when we fix our eyes on our problems instead of on Jesus, fear grows. God wants you to keep your eyes on Him and to remember that He is with you even through the valley. He will be your confidence and will keep you from falling. You do not need to be afraid of sudden trouble or of what may come, because the Lord Himself is your security.
Scripture also says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning and the sum of wisdom and knowledge. This is not a fear that makes you cower like you have a phobia, but a deep reverence and awe for who God is, His greatness and His power. To fear the Lord in this way is to love what He loves and to hate what is evil, and to turn away from evil. The promise connected to this is beautiful. When you are not wise in your own eyes but you reverence the Lord and depart from evil, it brings health to your body and strength to your bones. Those who live in that reverence walk with strong confidence, and the Bible says those who fear Him lack no good thing. Even the young lions may go hungry, but those who seek the Lord will not lack what they truly need. God will take care of you as you take care of your relationship with Him.
God is also deeply interested in your health. The Gospels show Jesus again and again having compassion and healing people. He touched the leper, He healed the servant of the centurion, He lifted up Peter's mother in law, and in the evening multitudes came with sickness and oppression and He healed them. Matthew connects this to the prophecy of Isaiah that He Himself bore our sicknesses and carried our infirmities. That shows His tender heart toward our physical needs. There is also a close connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. One of the apostles wrote a personal greeting to a beloved friend wishing that he would prosper and be in good health just as his soul was prospering. That was not meant as a guarantee that every believer will be perfectly healed, but it does show God's kind wish for our well being and it reminds us that our inner life affects our outer health. We are learning more and more how attitudes affect the body, and Scripture has long said that a joyful heart is like good medicine, while fear and discouragement can harm us. Caring for your soul through trust in Christ, and caring for your body with wisdom and prudent care, both matter to God.
So let me pray for you now.
Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ I bring this dear one before You who is so afraid about eyesight and health. You see the distress and anguish and the fear that has come like a storm. Lord, calm that fear with Your presence. Help this heart to look away from the problem and to look to Jesus, to trust Him as Savior and to rest in Your love. Fill this life with a reverent awe for You, a desire to walk in Your ways and to turn from evil, and grant the confidence and peace that comes from fearing You. Lay Your compassionate hand upon this body. You are the One who bore our infirmities, and You care about every part of us. I ask You to touch the eyes and to bring healing and strength according to Your perfect will, to guide all medical care, and to give wisdom for daily stewardship of the body. Give a merry and trusting heart that brings health, and let the soul prosper in fellowship with You. Let there be no want, but Your provision and Your keeping. In Jesus name, Amen.
Continue to bring your needs to the Lord honestly, keep your eyes on Him, walk in reverence for Him, and trust His care for both your soul and your body.
