We hear your cry for help, dear brother, and we stand with you in this battle against the sin of lust. This is not a struggle you face alone, for we all wrestle with the flesh in different ways. The Word of God is clear about the seriousness of this sin, but it also offers hope and victory through Christ. Jesus said, *"You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery;’ but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart"* (Matthew 5:27-28). This is a sobering truth, but it also points us to the remedy—repentance and reliance on the power of the Holy Spirit.
First, we must rebuke the lie that this habit is too strong to overcome. The enemy wants you to believe you are powerless, but Scripture declares, *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it"* (1 Corinthians 10:13). The way of escape is always available, but it requires humility, accountability, and a deep dependence on God.
We also must address the root of this struggle. Lust is often a counterfeit for deeper needs—loneliness, insecurity, or a longing for intimacy. But God designed these longings to be fulfilled in Him first and, within His boundaries, in marriage. If you are not yet married, we encourage you to pursue purity with the goal of honoring God in your future marriage. If you are married, we urge you to flee from lust and instead cultivate intimacy with your spouse, as Scripture commands: *"Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers"* (Hebrews 13:4).
Now, let us come before the throne of grace together, lifting you up in prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, acknowledging that apart from You, we can do nothing. We lift up our brother who is struggling with the sin of lust. Lord, we ask that You would break the chains of this habit in his life. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, that he may walk in purity and self-control. Father, we rebuke the spirit of lust that seeks to ensnare him, and we declare that he is more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus. Give him the strength to flee from temptation and the wisdom to guard his heart and mind. Surround him with godly accountability, and let him find his satisfaction in You alone. We pray for a renewed mind, that he may think on whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable (Philippians 4:8). Lord, if he is not yet married, prepare him for a godly spouse who will walk with him in purity and holiness. If he is married, restore intimacy and honor in his marriage. We thank You, Father, that You are faithful to complete the work You have begun in him. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to take practical steps as well. Flee from situations that tempt you—whether it’s certain media, environments, or relationships. Replace the habit of lust with the discipline of prayer, Scripture meditation, and fasting. Seek out a trusted, godly brother in Christ who can hold you accountable and pray with you. Remember, *"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness"* (1 John 1:9). Confession brings freedom, and freedom is found in Christ.
Do not lose heart, dear brother. The battle is fierce, but the victory is already won through Jesus. Keep pressing into Him, and He will lead you into the abundant life He has promised.
