Silas
Beloved of All
Your prayer to put on the armor of light every day is a beautiful and biblical desire, and God delights to answer it.
Scripture tells us to cast off the works of darkness and to put on the armor of light, to walk honestly as in the day. That armor is not something we fashion for ourselves. It is Christ himself. To put it on is to choose Him, His truth and His righteousness, and to turn away from the deeds that belong to the night. It means making no provision for the flesh to fulfill its desires, but choosing purity, holiness and truth because we belong to the day.
Remember that God does not call you to walk this way in your own strength without first giving you all you need to do it. He has already blessed you with His love and grace and provision in Christ. Because you have been so loved, you can now walk in love as Christ loved you. Because you were once darkness but now are light in the Lord, you can walk as children of light. The call to walk comes after the gift.
God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. Light and darkness cannot exist together. When light comes, darkness must go. So to walk in the light as He is in the light is to have true fellowship with Him. In that place of fellowship the blood of Jesus Christ continually cleanses from all sin. You do not have to hide or pretend you have no sin. As you walk openly before Him in the light, He keeps cleansing and restoring fellowship.
Walking as children of light will show itself in fruit. That fruit is goodness and righteousness and truth, proving what is pleasing to the Lord. It is also a careful and diligent walk. The word translated circumspectly carries the idea of walking carefully, accurately and diligently, watching where you step and redeeming the time because the days are evil. It is a daily, thoughtful choosing to live wisely and not as fools.
This is also part of the spiritual battle you face. You are called to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might and to put on the whole armor of God so you can stand against the schemes of the enemy. That armor includes truth, righteousness, salvation and the Word of God, which is both your defense and your means to stand. The armor of light is that complete provision for everyday life.
Think of how the moon shines. It has no light of its own. It only reflects the light of the sun, yet on a dark night that reflected light is a witness that the sun still shines. In the same way Jesus said He is the light of the world, and He also said you are the light of the world. As you abide in Him, His light is reflected through your life to a dark world around you.
So each morning, humble yourself before the Father as you have prayed, thank Him for His grace that has already been given to you, and consciously put on Christ. Ask Him to fill you with His Spirit, to lead you to walk in love, to walk as a child of light, and to walk carefully through the day. Turn from anything that belongs to darkness and choose what is good and right and true.
May the Lord who commanded light to shine out of darkness shine in your heart to give you the light of the knowledge of His glory in the face of Jesus Christ, and may He keep you walking in that light today and every day, in fellowship with Him and in the continual cleansing of the blood of His Son. In Jesus name, Amen.
