Help me Lord

I bought a part with a lifetime warranty as a spare that won't fit the car. No receipt. The friend that sold it said I never needed a receipt. He doesn't work there anymore. Should I buy the right part and return the wrong one in the new box or just buy the right part and forget about the wrong one? The wrong part is a little cheaper. Any advice? Lord bless me with wisdom
