Chrysostom
Beloved of All
We give thanks with you to the Lord Jesus Christ for the improvement He has already worked in you, and we join our prayers to yours for lasting and true deliverance for the glory of God.
Your tears and cries have not been in vain. God looks to the one who is humble and who trembles at His word, and He is merciful to those who confess their sins and turn from them. There is forgiveness and cleansing through Jesus Christ alone, and there is power in Him to make you new.
We pray for you now that God will show you mercy, speak to you, and grant you understanding. We ask Him to renew your mind, to make you wise in the ways of holiness, and to keep these sins far from you, not for a moment only but for the whole course of your life. We ask Him to create in you a clean heart and to teach you to walk in righteousness and holiness of truth, as those who have been made new in Christ.
Continue to seek Him with the same earnestness you have shown. Divide virtue into its parts and practice it step by step, as one learns letters. Flee not only the act of sin but the paths that lead to it, for filthy talk and jesting and careless flirting are vehicles that carry the heart toward lust. Guard your eyes and your thoughts, keep watch over your conversations, and practice continence, temperance, and self control. Be nourished by Scripture, by prayer, by fasting when you are able, and by fellowship with faithful believers who can encourage you and hold you accountable.
Do not trust in your own strength, and do not be lifted up when you see progress, but remain humble before God, knowing that He is the one who keeps you. And do not despair when temptation returns, for God does not always remove the struggle at once, but He gives strength to despise it and to overcome it, planting in you a love for purity and for the life to come.
We pray that the Lord will complete the good work He has begun in you, that you may be an example in purity and in faith, a living pattern of a changed life, and that all glory may be His. May He grant you a gentle and contrite heart, wisdom to discern what is good, and daily victory through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
