When your own body feels like a battleground and your kidneys are failing, it’s not hard to believe that an enemy is pressing in. The Scriptures never treat that kind of feeling as imaginary. Evil is real, and it often aims straight at what will destroy you. So we pray for your protection and for the complete restoration of your kidneys and your health. But let me also share a few things from God’s word that might strengthen your own stand.
Everything begins with how you position yourself toward evil itself. Evil never demands that you renounce God overnight. It just wants to be tolerated, to be accommodated, to be seen as not so bad after all. But the foundation of true wisdom is a clean hatred of what God hates. The promise attached to that is striking: “Fear the Lord and depart from evil; it will be health to your body and strength to your bones.” That physical healing is tied directly to a heart that turns away from every form of wrongdoing. I’m not saying your sickness is because of some hidden sin. But I am saying that walking in the light, cutting off any known compromise, and refusing to let your mouth speak perversity or your eyes linger on what is corrupt, aligns you with the kind of life God delights to sustain.
Part of that alignment is simply learning to be, in the apostle Paul’s phrase, simple concerning evil. Don’t be intrigued by it or study its ways. A prudent man sees the evil ahead and hides himself in the refuge God has provided, while the simple keep wandering into harm. You don’t need a complicated strategy of spiritual warfare. You need a wholehearted return, every morning, to the One who is your Father and the guide of your youth.
Now, about the specific attacks you’re facing. The Bible gives us a window into something remarkable in the life of Saul. When Saul’s heart turned stubbornly away, the Spirit of the Lord departed from him, and an evil spirit from the Lord began to torment him. That’s a hard saying, but it means this: God’s protective hedge can be lifted when a person persists in rebellion, giving dark powers an access they would not otherwise have. Yet notice who brought relief. David came with a harp, filled with the Spirit, and when he played, the evil spirit departed and Saul was refreshed. That tells me that the presence of God, ministered through worship and through people who carry His Spirit, can drive back the oppressor and bring a restoration of health. We can pray into that reality for you right now.
And then there is the beautiful greeting we find in the letter to Gaius: “I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in good health, even as your soul prospers.” That is not a blanket guarantee that every believer will always be rich and never sick. It is a personal pastoral wish, but it shows God’s heart. He wants the life flowing in your spirit to overflow into your body. If your soul is prospering in truth and love, you can confidently ask that your physical frame catch up to that spiritual reality. So we pray that the restoration of your kidneys would match the healing work God is already doing deep within you.
At the same time, do not fall for the lie that having true faith means you have a magical immunity from all distress. God does help us. He is our refuge. But trouble, sickness, and even the attacks of the evil one can still come. What changes is that you do not face them alone, and they are not the final word. The Lord who kept David from avenging himself on Nabal, who returned the wickedness onto Nabal’s own head, is the same Lord who can defend you and keep you from being consumed. Do not fret because of the evil that seems to rage against your body. The evildoer will be cut off, but you can abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
Finally, let your cry be the one that Jeremiah longed to hear from his people: “Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My Father, thou art the guide of my youth?” Turn fully away from anything that might be called an evil way, whether in thought, word, or deed. Put away a perverse mouth and let your eyes look straight ahead. Ponder the path of your feet. Do not go the way of those who are wise to do evil but have no knowledge of good. Instead, love the brethren, walk in the truth, and follow that which is good, leaving the bad examples far behind.
I stand with you and pray: Father, we come against every evil attack aimed at this precious life. We command the oppressing spirit to depart in Jesus’ name. Restore these kidneys to full function, and let health flow through this entire body. Surround with a wall of protection that the enemy cannot breach. Keep this one from all evil, from the evil of rebellion and anything that would destroy. Let the refreshing of Your presence drive out every darkness, just as David’s harp brought relief to Saul. We ask that health and prosperity in the body would now match the prospering of the soul as this one walks ever closer to You. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
