THE PHYSICIAN WHOSE GARMENT HEALS
A visit to hospitals anywhere in the world will reveal that a lot of people are suffering from one sickness or the other. I was at the University College Hospital, Ibadan few years ago where I saw different kinds of people with diverse kinds of sicknesses. More sick people are even outside hospitals than those in there. There are some people suffering from incurable diseases, terminal diseases, sicknesses that can be managed with consistent drug usage and some from ailments that are not known in the medical world.
A sick person can go to any length in search for healing. Some have gone to the best hospitals with the best doctors around the world to procure healing. Many will engage in rituals, sacrifices, appeasement and the likes. When a sick person hears about a specialist or herbalist who can help him get well, he will quickly go to him. ‘And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.’ Luke 5:31. Life investments of many have been consumed by sicknesses as the sick person moves from one place to the other spending huge amount of money. Sickness is indeed a bad experience!
It’s true that a sick person will always be on the look out for a physician who can heal him, but I know of a Physician who always goes out to look for the sick so that He can heal them. ‘And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.’ Matthew 9:35.
One day, this Doctor went to attend to a man suffering from psychosis in a town called Gadara. The condition of this man was so pathetic that the combine efforts of the best psychiatrists, mental psychologists, and other medical professional to help him proved abortive. But this Great Physician healed him without stress. (Read Mark 5:1-20).
As this sought-after Doctor was returning from His gadara healing trip, great multitudes were waiting for him. ‘And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.’ Mark 5:21. Some wanted to know him, some were there to hear his word, some came to verify peoples claim about his unprecedented healing ability, but the largest percentage of them came to receive healing for their sick bodies and souls. Do I hear you say healing for their sick …souls? Yes, just as He heals sick bodies, so also does He heal sick souls. He knows how to heal oppressed, depressed, confused, broken, wayward, embittered,…soul.
And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet, And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him. Mark 5:22-24. This great Healer was going to honour an invitation to heal a dieing young daughter of a notable man when something happened that gave people a new revelation about another dimension to the greatness of His power.
And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. Mark 5:25-29.
I have seen medical experts trying to save the live of their patient to no avail. We took a dying man to a specialist hospital. On arrival, the doctor and nurses on duty did all they could do. One was trying to check his blood pressure, another was working to get his vein so as to fix water drip, one tried to check his pulse. Another came to beat his chest to revive him. At the end of it all, the doctor demanded for his case file, looked at it and shook his head. He then ordered a nurse to write ‘B.I.D’ (brought in dead). But in the case of this woman with a nonstop menstrual flow for twelve year, the Physician did not need to run around fixing drip, checking pulse, carrying out tests, …. He did not even lift His hand before the woman was healed. The woman simply TOUCHED HIS GARMENT and that settled it! She was healed of her sickness, sorrow, pains, frustration, wastage, and weakness.
What was her secret? Two things. Her relationship and her faith! ‘And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.’ Mark 5:34. Jesus referred to her as ‘DAUGHTER’. She first believed in the person of Jesus Christ before she could trust Him for healing. She became God’s child. ‘But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:’ John 1:12.
God is the greatest Healer. He demonstrated this and His love to the whole word through His only begotten Son – JESUS CHRIST. He loves you. He desires to help you out of all your unpleasant situations. He promises to SAVE and to BLESS anyone who chose to establish a Father-child relationship with Him. Are you willing? Then pray this prayer: God of heaven, I thank you for loving me so much that you sent Jesus for my salvation. I believe in your redemptive work on the cross. Forgive my sins and make me your child. Thank you for saving me.
LORD JESUS, YOUR SON HAS READ THIS AND HAS ACEPTED YOU AS HIS SAVIOUR. HEAL HIM FROM THIS CONDITION AND GIVE HIM GOOD HEALTH TO SERVE YOU IN JESUS NAME. AMEN.
