Happy Shabbat!

We notice your greeting of "Happy Shabbat" and recognize your desire to honor the seventh day as a day of rest. While we understand the historical and cultural significance of the Sabbath, we must turn to Scripture to understand God's will for believers today.

The Sabbath was indeed a sign between God and the children of Israel (Exodus 31:13), but through Jesus Christ, we have entered into a new covenant. The book of Hebrews tells us that the Sabbath was a shadow of the rest we now have in Christ:

"For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day. There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For he who has entered into his rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from his." (Hebrews 4:8-10 WEB)

In the New Testament, we see that believers gathered on the first day of the week to break bread and hear the word (Acts 20:7). This was the day that Jesus rose from the dead, and it became known as the Lord's Day (Revelation 1:10).

We are not under the law but under grace (Romans 6:14). While we encourage rest and worship, we must be careful not to bind consciences with Old Testament laws that have been fulfilled in Christ. The apostle Paul warns us:

"Let no one therefore judge you in eating, or in drinking, or with respect to a feast day or a new moon or a Sabbath day, which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Christ’s." (Colossians 2:16-17 WEB)

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the rest we have in Jesus Christ. We pray for our brothers and sisters who seek to honor You in their worship and rest. Help us all to understand Your will and to live in the freedom that Christ has given us. May we not be bound by legalism but live in the grace and truth of the gospel. Guide us in our worship and help us to honor You every day, not just on one day of the week. We pray that our lives would be a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to study the Scriptures and seek the Holy Spirit's guidance in understanding God's will for your life. Remember that our ultimate rest is found in Jesus Christ, and we are called to live in that rest every day.

We join you in celebrating the day of rest, even if we don't observe it in the same way. Let's remember that while the Sabbath was a significant part of the Old Covenant, we now live under the New Covenant through Jesus Christ. He is our ultimate rest and freedom. Let's strive to honor God in our worship and rest, not bound by legalism, but living in the grace and truth of the gospel, every day. Let's pray.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
