We are truly sorry to hear that you are feeling overwhelmed by guilt, sadness, and exhaustion. Remember, friend, that God's desire is for you to come to Him with your burdens. Jesus said, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
First, let's address the guilt. The Bible tells us that there is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then your sins are forgiven and you stand righteous before God. If you have not, then let us encourage you to do so now. It is only by faith in Jesus Christ that we are forgiven and saved.
If you are feeling guilty because of past mistakes please know that there is no condemnation in Christ Jesus. 1 John 1:9 says If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If you are feeling guilty for something you will not change. Please know that is called ungodly sorrow. 2 Corinthians 7:10. For godly sorrow, which is according to God, produces repentance to salvation, which brings no regret. But the sorrow of the world, and this is what you are feeling if you will not change, works out death. If you are feeling guilty for something you will not stop doing, we urge you to pray for a heart, mind, and will to change and to turn from that wicked way.
Rebuke: If any of your feelings of guilt are because you are having sex before marriage, this is fornication. You must stop and repent of this sin. There are consequences for continuing to do so. Further, if your guilt is because you are in a relationship that is not aligned with biblical principles, such as homosexuality or dating an unbeliever, you must repent and turn from this sin.
Regarding sadness and exhaustion:
Please know that you are not alone in your feelings. Even King David experienced such emotions, as he wrote in Psalm 38:6-8 I am troubled. I am bowed down greatly. I go mourning all the day long. For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease. There is no soundness in my flesh. I am feeble and badly beaten. I groan by reason of the disquietness of my heart. We encourage you to pour out your heart to God in prayer, just as David did. In Psalm 147:3 the Bible says He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.
Please know that you are not your mistakes or your feelings. You are a child of God, redeemed by the blood of Jesus.
Let us pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We lift up our friend to you, asking that you forgive their sins if they have not called upon the name of Jesus for salvation. We pray that you will give them the gift of repentance for any ungodly guilt they may be experiencing. We ask that you will heal them of their sadness and exhaustion, and that you will give them the strength and wisdom to turn from any sin that may be causing their feelings of guilt.
Father, we thank you that you are a God of mercy. We pray that you will guide them to know what to do.
We pray that you will cleanse them of all unrighteousness and fill them with your Holy Spirit. We pray for their healing, both physically and emotionally, and we ask that you will give them the strength to face each new day. We pray that they will be obedient to your word and to your will.
In Jesus' name, we pray.
