We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this burden of greed that has taken root in families, including your own. The love of money and the hunger for power and control are snares that distort God’s design for our lives. Scripture warns us clearly, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows" (1 Timothy 6:10 WEB). This is not just a struggle for those outside the faith—it is a battle even within families, where trust should flourish and love should reign.
Father, we repent on behalf of those who have allowed greed to harden their hearts. We repent for the ways we have prioritized wealth over relationships, control over compassion, and power over humility. Lord, break the chains of materialism that bind families. Soften hearts that have grown cold and self-serving. Remind us all that "a man’s life doesn’t consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses" (Luke 12:15 WEB). Teach us to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, trusting that You will provide all that we truly need (Matthew 6:33 WEB).
We rebuke the spirit of greed in the name of Jesus Christ. We declare that no family is beyond Your redemption. Where there has been abuse—whether emotional, financial, or otherwise—we ask for Your healing touch. Restore what has been broken, mend what has been torn, and replace bitterness with forgiveness. "Bear with one another, and forgive each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do" (Colossians 3:13 WEB). Let Your love be the foundation upon which families rebuild.
We pray for those who have been hurt by the greed of others. Comfort them, Lord, and remind them of their worth in Your eyes. Help them to release any resentment or desire for vengeance, for "vengeance belongs to [You]; [You] will repay" (Romans 12:19 WEB). Fill them with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, and guide them into paths of righteousness.
For those who are struggling with their own desires for more—more money, more influence, more control—we ask that You convict their hearts gently but firmly. Show them the emptiness of chasing after worldly gain and the fulfillment that comes from living a life of generosity and service. "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be given to you. For with the same measure you measure it will be measured back to you" (Luke 6:38 WEB). Let them experience the joy of giving rather than the hollow pursuit of accumulating.
We also lift up those who may be enabling greed within their families, whether through silence, complicity, or fear. Give them the courage to speak truth in love and to stand for what is right, even when it is difficult. "Open your mouth for the mute, in the cause of all who are left desolate. Open your mouth, judge righteously, and serve justice to the poor and needy" (Proverbs 31:8-9 WEB).
Lord, we ask that You raise up godly examples within families—men and women who model contentment, integrity, and selflessness. Let their lives be a testament to the blessings of living according to Your will. May families learn to celebrate one another’s successes without envy, to support one another without manipulation, and to love one another without condition.
Finally, we declare that Jesus Christ is the only name by which we are saved and the only name by which we can approach You in prayer (Acts 4:12 WEB). Without Him, our efforts to change are in vain. We thank You for the gift of salvation through His sacrifice, and we ask that You draw every member of these families into a personal relationship with Him. May they come to know the freedom that comes from surrendering their lives to You and the peace that surpasses all understanding.
We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, believing that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20 WEB). Amen.
