We see your heartâs cry for Godâs will to be done in the foundational areas of lifeâprovision, forgiveness, relationships, and protectionâand we join you in lifting this before the Lord, for these are the very things Jesus taught us to pray for in the model prayer He gave His disciples. How beautiful it is that youâve turned to Matthew 6:9-13, where our Savior Himself shows us how to approach the Father with both reverence and dependence. This prayer is not merely words to recite but a framework for how we are to live: surrendered to Godâs sovereignty, trusting in His provision, walking in forgiveness, and relying on His protection from the evil one.
First, let us honor you for recognizing that Godâs will must take precedence in every area of our lives. Too often, we seek our own desires first, but Jesus teaches us to begin with the holiness of Godâs name, the advancement of His kingdom, and the fulfillment of His will. This is the posture of a heart that understands *He* is the source of all we need. As it is written, *"But seek first Godâs Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well"* (Matthew 6:33, WEB). When we align our priorities with His, we position ourselves to receive His blessingsânot because weâve earned them, but because He is a good Father who delights in giving good gifts to His children.
Youâve mentioned our basic human needs, and indeed, God cares deeply about these. He is not a distant deity unaware of our struggles. The request for *"daily bread"* reminds us that our Heavenly Father knows we need sustenanceâphysically, emotionally, and spiritually. Yet, how often do we worry as if He does not see or care? Jesus assures us, *"Therefore donât be anxious, saying, âWhat will we eat?â âWhat will we drink?â or, âWith what will we be clothed?â ... For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things"* (Matthew 6:31-32, WEB). Let us trust Him, not just in theory, but in the daily surrender of our anxieties. If you are facing lack in any areaâfinancial strain, loneliness, or uncertainty about the futureâbring it before Him now. He is Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord who provides.
Forgiveness is another cornerstone of this prayer, and it is both a gift we receive and a command we obey. Jesus ties our reception of Godâs forgiveness to our willingness to forgive others: *"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you donât forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses"* (Matthew 6:14-15, WEB). This is not a suggestion but a divine principle. Unforgiveness is a chain that binds us to bitterness and hinders our relationship with God. If there is someone you need to forgiveâwhether for a small offense or a deep woundâwe urge you to release it to the Lord. Forgiveness does not excuse sin, but it frees *you* from its grip. Ask the Holy Spirit to soften your heart and give you the strength to obey.
Relationships, too, must be rooted in Godâs will. The world offers counterfeit versions of love and connection, but Godâs design is for relationships that reflect His holiness and purpose. If you are seeking a spouse, we pray you would pursue a godly courtship with another believer, one that honors the Lord and points toward the covenant of marriage. *"Donât be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?"* (2 Corinthians 6:14, WEB). If you are already married, we pray you would cherish and nurture that bond, for marriage is a sacred reflection of Christâs love for His church (Ephesians 5:22-33). And if you are struggling with sin in this areaâwhether fornication, adultery, or any impurityâwe lovingly but firmly call you to repentance. *"Flee sexual immorality! âEvery sin that a man does is outside the body,â but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or donât you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are Godâs"* (1 Corinthians 6:18-20, WEB). There is no shame in turning from sin; there is only grace when we come to Jesus.
Lastly, the prayer for protection is vital. We live in a fallen world where the evil one prowls like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). But greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4)! Jesus teaches us to ask the Father to *"deliver us from the evil one,"* and we claim that promise over you now. Whether you face spiritual attacks, temptation, or physical danger, the Lord is your shield and strong tower. *"The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower"* (Psalm 18:2, WEB). Put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) and stand firm in the authority of Christâs name.
Now, let us pray together over these things:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this dear one who seeks Your will in every area of life. Lord, we honor You as our Provider, our Redeemer, our Protector, and our Peace. Your Word tells us that You know our needs before we even ask, yet You invite us to come to You with boldness and trust. Father, we ask that You would supply every need according to Your riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). Where there is lack, bring abundance. Where there is fear, bring faith. Where there is brokenness, bring healing.
Lord, we pray for a heart that forgives as You have forgiven us. If there is bitterness or unresolved anger, we ask You to uproot it and replace it with Your love. Help us to walk in the freedom that comes from extending grace, just as You have extended it to us.
For relationships, Father, we ask for Your wisdom and discernment. If this one is seeking a spouse, lead them to a godly believer who will honor You in marriage. If they are married, strengthen that bond and guard it against the enemyâs schemes. Convict and turn away any heart that is walking in sexual immorality or compromise. Restore purity and a passion for holiness.
We rebuke every scheme of the evil one against this life. Lord, be a wall of fire around them (Zechariah 2:5). Protect them from temptation, from harm, and from the snares of the devil. Let Your angels encamp around them (Psalm 34:7), and let Your peace guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).
Father, above all, let Your will be done in their life as it is in heaven. May they walk in surrender, trusting that Your plans are good, even when the path is unclear. We declare that You are faithful, and You will complete the work You have begun in them (Philippians 1:6).
We pray all these things in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who gave Himself for us that we might have life abundantly. Amen.
Finally, we want to encourage you: keep seeking the Lord in prayer. The model Jesus gave us is not just for recitation but for *relationship*. God longs for you to come to Him with your needs, your fears, your joys, and your questions. He is not distant or indifferentâHe is near to all who call on Him in truth (Psalm 145:18). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so today. *"If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved"* (Romans 10:9, WEB). There is no greater need than to know Him as your Savior and Lord. Without Jesus, we have no access to the Father, no hope of forgiveness, and no promise of eternal life. But in Him, we have *everything*.
Walk in His peace, and trust that He who began this good work in you will carry it to completion. We are standing with you in prayer.
