šŸ™ God's Will & Our Basic, Human Needs, (Provision, Forgiveness, Relationships, Protection) Matt 6:9-13

Faithful Servant
šŸ™ Jesus said, "Pray in this way: ā€˜Our Father in Heaven, May Your Name be honored. Let Your Kingdom come. Let Your Will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory, forever, Amen.’" Matt 6:9-13, in Jesus' Name.

We are deeply encouraged by your focus on the Lord’s Prayer as a foundation for understanding God’s will and our most fundamental needs. Jesus Himself taught us to pray in this way, and in doing so, He revealed the heart of the Father—His holiness, His sovereignty, and His deep care for every aspect of our lives. Let us explore this together, grounding ourselves in Scripture and lifting our hearts in prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer begins with worship: *"Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy."* (Matthew 6:9, WEB) This reminds us that our first priority is to honor God’s name, to acknowledge His lordship over all things, and to seek His glory above our own desires. When we align our hearts with His holiness, we position ourselves to receive His will, not as a burden, but as a blessing. His will is perfect, and it is always for our ultimate good, even when we do not fully understand it. As Romans 12:2 tells us, *"Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God."*

Next, Jesus teaches us to pray for God’s Kingdom to come and His will to be done *"on earth as it is in heaven."* (Matthew 6:10, WEB) This is a prayer of surrender—an invitation for God’s rule to be established in our lives, our families, our communities, and our world. It is also a declaration of trust, recognizing that His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:9). When we pray this, we are asking God to move in power, to bring justice, redemption, and restoration to a broken world. We are also asking Him to shape *our* wills to align with His, so that we may walk in obedience and faith.

Then, Jesus addresses our basic human needs: *"Give us today our daily bread."* (Matthew 6:11, WEB) This is not just a prayer for physical sustenance, though God certainly cares about our material needs (Matthew 6:31-33). It is also a prayer for dependence. By asking for *daily* bread, we acknowledge that we rely on God for everything—our provision, our strength, our very breath. He is our Jehovah Jireh, the God who provides (Genesis 22:14). In Philippians 4:19, we are assured, *"My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."* Let us never forget that our needs are met not by our own efforts, but by His grace.

Forgiveness is at the heart of the next petition: *"Forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors."* (Matthew 6:12, WEB) This is a profound and challenging truth. Our forgiveness from God is directly tied to our willingness to forgive others. In Matthew 6:14-15, Jesus makes this clear: *"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."* Unforgiveness is a heavy burden that hinders our relationship with God and with others. It is an act of mercy to release those who have wronged us, just as Christ has released us from the debt of our sins. Let us examine our hearts: Is there anyone we need to forgive? Are we holding onto bitterness or resentment? Now is the time to surrender it to the Lord and walk in the freedom of His forgiveness.

The prayer continues with a plea for protection: *"Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."* (Matthew 6:13, WEB) This is a recognition of our vulnerability and our need for God’s strength to resist sin. Temptation is a reality in this fallen world, but we are not left defenseless. 1 Corinthians 10:13 promises, *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure."* We must be vigilant, putting on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) and fleeing from sin (1 Corinthians 6:18, 2 Timothy 2:22). At the same time, we trust in God’s power to deliver us from the schemes of the evil one, who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). Our victory is in Christ, who has already overcome the world (John 16:33).

Finally, the prayer concludes with worship: *"For yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen."* (Matthew 6:13, WEB) This doxology reminds us that all things belong to God. He is sovereign, He is mighty, and He alone deserves all glory. When we pray, we do so with the confidence that He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). Our prayers are not just requests; they are acts of worship, declaring His supremacy over every area of our lives.

Now, let us pray together over these truths, lifting our hearts to the Father in the name of Jesus:

*"Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of reverence and gratitude, for You alone are holy, sovereign, and worthy of all praise. Your name is above every name, and we long to see Your Kingdom come and Your will be done in our lives, in our families, in our nations, and across the earth. Lord, we surrender our plans, our desires, and our fears to You, trusting that Your will is perfect and Your ways are higher than ours.

Father, we ask for our daily bread—not just the physical provision we need, but the spiritual nourishment that comes from Your Word and Your presence. Teach us to depend on You completely, knowing that You are our Provider and our Sustainer. Help us to seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness, trusting that all these things will be added to us.

Lord, we confess our sins before You and ask for Your forgiveness. Wash us clean by the blood of Jesus, and create in us pure hearts that are quick to repent and quick to forgive. Search our hearts, O God, and reveal any bitterness, resentment, or unforgiveness that we may be harboring. Give us the grace to release those who have wronged us, just as You have forgiven us. Let us walk in the freedom and peace that comes from a heart made right with You.

We ask for Your protection, Father. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Strengthen us to resist sin and to stand firm in the face of the enemy’s schemes. Clothe us in Your armor, and fill us with Your Spirit, that we may walk in victory and holiness. Guard our minds, our hearts, and our homes from the attacks of the enemy.

Finally, Lord, we declare that Yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. We trust in Your sovereignty, Your might, and Your goodness. May our lives bring You honor and glory in all that we do.

We pray all these things in the precious and mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who taught us to pray in this way. Amen."*

Beloved, as we reflect on the Lord’s Prayer, let us also remember that our access to the Father is only through Jesus Christ. There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is through His sacrifice that we can boldly approach the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9-10). There is no greater need than the need for a Savior, and in Christ, all our needs—spiritual, emotional, and physical—are met.

Let us also encourage one another to live out the principles of the Lord’s Prayer in our daily lives. Seek His Kingdom first. Trust Him for provision. Walk in forgiveness. Resist temptation through His strength. And above all, give Him the glory in everything. May we be a people who pray with faith, live with purpose, and shine with the light of Christ in a dark world.
